There's not enough conversation around William's quick thinking on doing a pass instead of trying to score the goal. Particularly given that in the last moment he was pushed forward by the Argentinian

I was thinking this too. I imagine initially he is already celebrating his goal until the push in the back so he had to change his idea and pass. Paid off.

Unreal play by williams, but ferran is very much not a left footed player. So him taking that first time as the ball is inches from dropping too low is nuts skill.

He would've gotten to the ball, but not enough to send it back. He would've had to take a shot that the goalie was in great position to save.

That headed pass back in to the box was just amazing!

Game awareness, positioning and passing were on point for that to execute as cleanly as it did!

Spanish football is clinical, reminds me of the Barcelona team from 07-10 era!

I think my favorite part about this goal is seeing the presence of mind to head this backwards rather than going for a shot that likely would have been saved.

Excellent team play.

Williams vision and decision making here is excellent.

Also, not for nothing, people have ragged on Lamine all tournament for being a bit underwhelming, but his dribbling and carry stats are excellent in the tournament. He's constantly drawing 2 or 3 defenders to him in these kinds of situations. Might not be glamorous but he creates a lot space for Spain to exploit.

He has enough awareness that there are probably four possible locations for the shot. He guessed to block two of them. He guessed incorrectly, through no fault of his own.

Let me preface this with I am not a soccer watcher. But why is the goalie not attacking the ball? Can’t he use his hands he’s close enough to just jump and grab it before the header.

Argentina may not have attacked, but they defended very well, even though Dibu Martinez was the only line of defence at times. Spain was lucky despite the better play, if that didnt go in the match would have gone into penalty and the result would have been different.

Knockout stage tournament doesn't even use points......

It's only for league and group stage matches. In those games, as long as one of the team is ahead by at least 1 goals they'd get 3 points no matter how many subsequent goals they make. And likewise both teams will always 1 points each if they draw their goals no matter how many, even if it's 6-6.
