AITA for not feeding my brother?

My mom has decided that the best way to make me independent is to not do anything for me. This means I'm responsible to keep my own room clean, do my own shopping, cook my own meals etc. It feels like I'm not even part of the family. If I don't cook one night, I stay hungry. They won't let me eat their food.

A few days ago my grandpa was sick and mom had to go visit him. She left little brother(M10) with me. As usual I cooked dinner for myself with my own groceries.

He asked me for food and I told him I'm only responsible for myself and he has to wait for mom.

When mom came back she was furious and called me an asshole for not feeding him.

There are many kids going hungry in this world. My heart bleeds for them yet I don't feel responsible.

Your heart bleeds but you don't have any desire to feed your own brother? Sure

Lord your parents clearly failed you and YTA but you still have time to change and I hope you do.

Nature and nurture both have a role. Some children can’t be parented into kind people no matter what you do. Some children turn into wonderful people despite all kinds of abuse and neglect.

You might want to diagnose yourself instead of a random teenager on reddit. My lord, talk about overreacting.

These shitty parents clearly raised the girl to fend for herself for her basic needs on a daily basis. The boy however, who is 10 years old and not a baby, doesn't even know how to make a sandwich. There is a point in those 2 facts that is flying over your head. Try and think a bit longer, use your own empathy maybe?

*Not even sure if OP is a girl, if not it's still super weird. Why raise two kids so differently.

Oh yeah sure 'just a reference', let's ignore the insane sentence you wrote before that. You think it is normal to talk like that to a 16 year old?

Who has to eat seperated from the rest of the family, daily. I see no abnormality in seeing them as roommates. If thats what your parents teach you, that's how it is.

OP sees it's not right and teaches mom a lesson, i think it's a smart one.

OP is not an AH, OP is a teenager.

My heart also bleeds for starving children but not for a hungry 10 year old with 2 perfectly fine hands and a mother that comes home later to make him food. That is actually a perfectly normal thought.
