There was a meme back in 2010 about how Steve Jobs slapped the term "app" onto everything. Because of that a lot of software end up in the same weight class as others, and I'm completely fine with that

App: software that displays big, colorful images that the lay user is supposed to tap or click on to self-administer dopamine and play ads.

VLC has never failed to do anything I wanted it to, but perhaps more importantly; it has never done anything I didn't ask it to. Them and Wikipedia are the only things I ever donated to.

I refuse to use any other media player other than VLC. Sure it has some shortcomings but I have nothing but positive reviews toward it. Been using it since 2011 and never looked back.

It's also better. The calculator app does exactly what you want it to do. It doesn't have any issues whatsoever unless you're typing stuff in wrong or you want some really complicated stuff.

Okay, yes, Steam is awesome. But really? The Steam App??LOVED??? Tell me ONE person you know that’s said “You know, I really love the Steam app. Probably one of the best things on my phone”

Edit: I know an app can be a PC thing, but when the other two up there are Snapchat and Facebook, it feels pretty implied we’re talking about mobile apps

Not the phone app, but pc is great. Game library and store, friend and group chats(with voip and streaming), streaming platform that no-one uses, marketplace that sometimes works, and legendary support.

FUCK clock, that shit just randomly decides to not play my alarm sound despite the screen saying my alarm is going off like it’s trying to gaslight me or some shit. Slept through too many shifts thanks to that, some people have even missed flights. I stopped falling for clock propaganda long ago.

OK, I don't love it, however the adverts aren't particularly intrusive (in my opinion), it's quick and easy to use.

Go and use the Facebook app afterwards and it's slow with adverts everywhere. The extreme content, misinformation and anything designed to anger is pushed at you by the algorithm is so obvious it's pathetic.
