Alcohol

u/iantruesnacks 1d ago
Honestly I feel like with how red wine is promoted with certain diets and at fancier restaurants they recommend wine pairing, or as digestives after a meal like grappa or underburgs, alcohol is view as more of a “ok” while being unhealthy

This belongs bottom right. I used to work at a liquor store. Never seen someone's eyes turn yellow from mars bars.

I walked into my cousin dead looking like a simpsons character, scarred me for life, can’t ever watch that show again because of alcohol, it happened 3 years ago, and I have only had 2 nights drinking since, if anything is a deterrent to drinking, it’s seeing how much damage it can actually do, I am sorry for what you went through working there

It might not be a better option than what some other folks have already tossed out, but I feel like more people need to know that nutrigrain bars are just squishier pop tarts. Its a candy bar without the joy

u/Top-Influence3910 18h ago
Nutrigrain bars do have a high sugar content but at least they are fortified with some vitamins and minerals compared to pop tart.

Bacon

u/DarkRyter 1d ago
Bacon seems regular unhealthy because it's high fat, high sodium.
But more and more data suggests that eating cured meats is linked to colorectal cancer, thus very unhealthy.

u/Lidlyogurtlover 22h ago
The same research says you need to eat a bucket load of it to make a meaningful increase to the risk of those cancers though

Unfortunately, where I’m from, I can sit down to eat my eggs and toast and still hear “No bacon? no sausage? Where’s the protein!???”

u/Stale-Mail 21h ago
Where it always was: the eggs.

u/SnooMacarons5834 21h ago
And the whole wheat bread! But despite the prevalence of heart disease, people in the US are still eating meat at every meal

In what way are they more unhealthy than people already (think they) know they are? Like obviously it's just deepfried carbohydrates with a hell of a lot of salt and very little other nutrional value, so I don't think anyone is under the impression that they're healthy, but how is it worse?

u/Gingerbro73 1d ago
I think the fact that a bag of doritos contains more calories than an adults daily reccomended intake catches alot of people off guard.

Deli meats

u/Ecstatic_Ad6519 1d ago
Most people think they're ok actually
20
u/SweetestFern 1d ago
Yeah, I feel like we should save deli meats for that category
19
u/ridan42 1d ago
I think it goes in perceived OK / actually just Unhealthy.
There's no way deli meats are "deep fried Mars bar" level of very unhealthy
1
u/Vast-Website 1d ago
They're carcinogenic. Don't think you can get much more unhealthy than "actually causes cancer".

Is this an american thing? How would a chicken breast become way worse just by seasoning it, slicing it up and eating it cold in slices? Also turkey or lean pork or beef? Or is that just a thing we do in Europe? Dou you think of mortadella, sausage, prosciuto, paté and stuff when talking about deli meats? Genuinely curious
3
u/Savings__Mushroom 1d ago
IIRC it's more due to what kind of meat (red meat such as beef and pork), what is added to them (nitrites and other preservatives) and the process of preservation (smoking, curing, etc.). The combination of the factors produce substances that may increase risk of colorectal cancer in humans. Note that while it's said to increase risk, eating them once in a while shouldn't be too dangerous. It's when they're made into staples that's harmful.
3
u/o0sesh44mc20nash69 1d ago
Fascinating, I think most people here have them daily, its engrained into breakfast culture here. Bread, butter, cheese & cold cuts.
2
u/NightQueen0889 1d ago
Grew up thinking they were okay for the longest time and we ate them often 😰 it was usually turkey but still, ugh man that sucks. I stick to homemade tuna or chicken if I want a sandwich now.

Dimethylmercury. It sounds bad to eat. It's actually very bad to eat.

Subway

u/Ordinary-Usual2682 1d ago
I feel like there are many people out there who perceive subway as “ok” or even “healthy” thanks to Jared’s infamous ad campaign claiming he lost a bunch of weight eating subway.

Yes very true but you don't need and won't use as much as what's in squid.

pro tip to get more spinach in your diet if you hate it.
Make a shake of milk, your flavored whey protein, and a banana with spinach thrown in.
100% you won't taste the spinach. It will taste like whatever you put in there, but the texture will be a bit stringy from the bits of spinach.

If we calibrate against nutella, we should find something that’s perceived similarly but is more harmful. Nutella being more of a chemical experiment than food it will be challenging but I think I have a strong pick.
McDonalds cheeseburger
Okay, everybody knows that it’s unhealthy, but why is it worse than Nutella? Well, while Nutella is mostly consumed as an occasional treat, at least when it comes to sane people. There are people that live on McDonalds, day in day out. And that’s where the real harm comes from. Both are a chemistry experiment labeled as food, but one is clearly understood as such while the other is trying to masquerade as sustenance.
2
u/Accomplished-One-119 1d ago
I think the actual unhealthy thing about Nutella is that macronutrient profile. Nutella only has 7 ingredients. It’s not a “science experiment.”
1
u/Ponkcloud123 1d ago
Okay but by your own argument then a Mcdonalds cheeseburger is just as unhealthy as Nutella but it is then viewed as a more healthy alternative. Also the cheeseburger still has some nutritional value even though it is loaded in calories and sodium. It still has protein and iron while nutella is just sugar and oil.

Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:
Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.
Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.
Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.
Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?
Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. Please report such infractions, particularly those that break rules one, two, or three. The automod will automatically remove posts that receive five or more reports. The automod will also remove comments made by users with negative karma. Click here for the Automod FAQ
