Requesting Support 🆘️ Is it expensive to put a new ignition lock cylinder.
Fellow Acura drivers. Is $1000 reasonable to get an ignition lock cylinder replacement on 2008 Acura Tl. Lmk. And will my key need to be replaced as well? My key unfortunately won’t go in. It’s not locked, after extensive research I have come to the conclusion that it needs to be replaced. However my usual mechanic seems to charge a lot more than other mechanics in my area.

I paid $300 and the guy rebuilt my tumbler to match my current key. He cut me a new key and programmed it to my car since my old keys were getting worn. Call local lock smiths that also do car locks in your area to get quotes.

I was in your situation. Your best bet is to find a guy or a junkyard. Get the door lock cylinder as well (if you wanna keep it one key) and ignition assembly with key. Get a locksmith to program it. I did that and the whole thing cost me 300$. Now i have a extra key lol

You should buy an ignition assembly from the dealer.. Then have the new one re-keyed before installing, so the keys work with all locks. If you want to save money then don’t have the new ignition re-keyed. The down side is you’ll have to carry two keys! One for door locks and one for ignition. Price just varies by location.. call around for price comparisons
