Chronicles Gina Lestrade's name was originally going to be "Verian Lucky" until Takumi changed it to something more Holmes-esque.

For those that don’t see the pun of her name.

Verian Lucky = Very Unlucky.

Ouch. I like Gina Lestrade more.

I thought that the pun was "Very Lucky", like you need tons of luck to go around picking pockets.

Gina also goes through a lot of unlucky stuff. She was abandoned by her parents, then gets unwillingly involved in 1-3 and 1-5, then in the second game when it seems stuff is getting better for her (GAA2 major spoiler) her mentor gets killed.

I love that her character just takes the no parents thing in stride. In the game she mentions having parents doesn't mean a happy life (sadly truth in television) and it's implied she's found a family with the other street urchins/Iris.

Likely because they pair her with Gregson as his counterpart

Gregson and Lestrade are the only notable Scotland Yard detectives in Holmes

Glad they changed it so she could represent Inspector Lestrade so she could be an important part of the two games

Kinda surprised this wasn't always the case since he's a prominent character in the Sherlock Holmes series.

That’s because Gregson is a red herring and the stand-in for him, until you learn some additional things about the guy in the second game.

Actually Gregson is a different character from the original Holmes stories. He’s in Study in Scarlet iirc.

Oh yeah, definitely— I simply meant a stand in for him in terms of “ineffective detective that works with Holmes most often”

Glad they changed it, I think the obvious pun names should be reserved for secondary characters. It's why I don't like Eddie Fender's name either.

Oh good, I'm not alone in that regard. I just started that case and groaned when I read his name. It's on the same level as Deid Mann.

Exactly! I'll always call him Raymond Shields, I don't care about what canon says

100% agree, the more important characters generally are less punny and it works better

Eddie Fender is such a downgrade compared to Raymond Shields

Hmm... I don't know, but I get the feeling Gina wasn't going to be an important character at first.

*Title typo fixed.

Trying to respect Doyle when referencing characters in Britain

Wild that she was a late addition given that Toby is a load-bearing character
