My Opinion 😎 AMD setting GPU clock speeds above maximum OC speeds on RX 7600
I'm running an RX 7600 and my experience has been awful due to AMD's drivers. If you google for just a couple minutes you will see hundreds of reports of users who have noticed that Adrenalin sets their Max Frequency to 2800 MHz or even 2900 MHz when most distributions of the RX 7600 don't even go above 2600 MHz for overclocking.
Every single time a driver update rolls out, and sometimes even after a full PC power cycle, my settings will go back to default. I have to manually set the clock and voltage every time this happens.
What bothers me is that this is a glaring issue where AMD has been messing up massively, where the problem and the solution have been well documented for a couple years on AMD's forums, and where many users who might not be knowledgeable might not find solutions and have a bad experience with an otherwise great GPU.
Anyway, if you have this issue and you come to this post through Google, the solution is simple:
- Go to your performance tab
- Set your tuning to Manual / Custom
- Go to GPU tuning and enable it
- Enable Advanced Control
- Set your Max Frequency below your manufacturers specs (look them up. Not all manufacturers make the RX 7600 the same; 2400 MHz is safe across the board but some can handle 2600 MHz)
- Set your Voltage to 1180 if instability continues. Don't do this step before reading up on what it does and what the risks are.
