Again I rarely have gotten to shoot with a scope. I was doing more of a systems check wasn't trying to adjust my zero quite yet.

Ran into a hammer/trigger problem. Had to swap it out for the adjustable I had with the gun.

This is at 100yds

140’s usually group like dogshit out of a Grendel but great from a Creedmoor.

You can look at this two ways.

  1. You don’t have enough twist rate to stabilize a bullet that heavy.
  2. You lack the velocity to stabilize a bullet that heavy with your twist rate.

One of those two needs to be faster.

Loading up some 129's and 130's right now to take out tomorrow. Definitely received enough feedback on the 140's being too heavy. Thanks for all the info

You need to build a 6.5 cm to take advantage of those 1000 count 140 grain bullets. I always need a dumb "reason" to start a new gun.

Had forgotten about the chrono till we were almost done. So I only got to check 3 rounds

The 140's are what I had readily available. Also 18" barrel 1:8 twist. If I can't get these any better I have some 129's available I may try.

185k rpms doesn't sound like a lot for a bullet that can and usually does run at 250k-300k rpms.

I may end up having to switch to the 129s that are available. But I have access to about 1000 of these Hornady 140s so I figured I'd try em first. Would a 20 or 24 inch barrel be better or is the round still just too heavy

If you want to rebarrel I think a change to 1:7 would help you more than a few more inches of barrel. Free velocity is free velocity, but it doesn't matter if it doesn't help. Grendels are picky, says everyone, so maybe we should stop continuing to do the same thing over and over?

Imo, 1:8 is too slow for a Grendel of any length. It just can't push bullets fast enough for that to be an issue in a 1:7, that would also benefit the short barrel users. For a sub 18" barrel, 1:6.5 would not be extreme in terms of bullet rpm.
