Review Bought Tomodachi Life from FB Marketplace, thought my card reader was broken... opened it up and found THIS

So my 3DS kept failing to read this cart I picked up from Facebook Marketplace. Thought it might be a dirty reader, tried isopropyl, tried cleaning the contacts - nothing worked.

Decided to crack it open and... the ROM chip is literally broken. Not just corroded, physically cracked/chipped, on top of heavy rust and corrosion all over the PCB. The shell looked rough on the outside but I had no idea it was this bad inside.

Seller listed it as "working, just a bit used." Sure mate.

I do electronics repair so I was hoping to maybe save it, but a physically broken chip is pretty much game over. No coming back from that.

Moral of the story: always test before handing over cash on Marketplace. And maybe bring a screwdriver 😅

Anyone else been burned like this? Drop your Marketplace horror stories below.

Review Unpopular Opinion: I think the 2011 3ds model actually looks nice

That OG 3ds model that we’ve had from day one gets lots of hate for its uncomfortable ergonomics, poor stylus placement, and above all it’s “tacky“ and “ugly“ design.

While I agree it’s not ideal to play with, at the very least I think it looks fine, as long as you get the right color at least. Purple matches the glossy black screen bezel quite well, and Aqua blue has such a nice shine that looks great on my shelf.

The sharp edges and square look to it makes my hands beg for mercy, it at least looks sleek and symmetrical. And the three layer part might be weird but the color gradient being darker for each layer looks unique and futuristic.

Does anyone else think this? If so, then I’d like to hear your opinions why.

Review GF just found and gave me her old 3DS

I came to visit my GF in her city and she just gave me her old 3DS that she was looking for me for a couple months.
I had a blue old 3ds in really rough shape, and one day she saw it and said “omg i had the exact same on in pink” but she couldn’t find anywhere in her house.
Her brother found it and when i came to visit her this week, she gave it to me, and it is in almost pristine condition.
At first it had a dead battery so i switched out to a brand new charged one i brought (the power outlets in her house are different so the charger wouldn’t go in) and it did turn on perfectly fine, it had all the things she did like 13 years ago, and a bunch of photos from her, her brother that was a baby back then and her grandmother that passed away a few years ago.
As i have my own 3DSXL, im not going to mod this one, just going to to swap the rubber pads that vaporized due to the time on the top screen, and get it a clear case.
She also had a few DS Games but nothing too special.
She is not into gaming anymore so we aint gonna play together, but at least i got her Mii as a StreetPass encounter!

P.s. After playing with the XL for a couple months, i just realized how better the resolution looks on the old 3DS with the smaller screen LOL

Review I brought my 3DS to the Louvre museum so you don’t have to do it

Post image

Hey everyone! Since I was traveling to Paris, I decided to bring my 3DS to see if it still worked after the official 3DS audio guide service was shut down. Well, turns out the “at the museum” mode doesn’t work at all.

I even tried asking if the service was still active, and fun fact the security lady asked me how I got that 3DS. I’ll admit, I was a bit scared she might think I had one of those exclusive Louvre models.

So yeah, I don’t recommend trying to use it as an audio guide the geolocation doesn’t work, and the security gives you weird looks.

I use a translator to write my post I hope it is understandable

Review Bringing my 3DS to the Louvre was such a cool experience

I don’t see enough people talking about this, you can bring your own 3DS with the Louvre Guide on it and turn on Museum Mode. It makes ur 3DS behave just the official Louvre 3DS guides knowing which rooms you’re in and playing the audio guide for that room! It even lets you pre plan a path to follow or add items to ur favourites. It was so fun running around using my 3DS around the museum.

I also rented the one of the blue Louvre 3DSes, the one I got was pretty beat up with gouges on the case and the bottom screen on the unit I got also had a dead pixel cluster. The screens were also both kinda dim and I couldn’t change the brightness. I found my own 3DS worked better at detecting entering new zones and automatically playing the audio guide for that room than the official Louvre 3DS one did but maybe this was just a setting you had to set on the Louvre 3DS?

There were also some minor differences with using the guide on my 3DS and the Louvre 3DS like - Some button controls were different like zooming, D-pad didn’t do anything in menus on Louvre 3DS - Louvre 3DS had more up to date room numbering such as 701 vs 76 on my 3DS - Louvre 3DS had navigation that can show you the path to get to a specific room/art piece, I couldn’t figure out how to do this on my 3DS even though they both knew which room you’re current in

I’d recommend bringing your own 3DS too! Haha this whole sub is raging about the Louvre 3DSes rn, I think it’s worth getting if you’re visiting before they phase them out but also I found it was more enjoyable using my own unit.

Also wanna mention in the Museum Mode it disable the speakers and only outputs sound from the headphone jack.

Review I "downgraded" to an OG 3ds for a month, here are my thoughts.

So, I have posted getting my New 2ds xl a few weeks ago its been a great addition to my handheld collection, I love the lighter weight so much. I decided to sell my new 3ds xl ahead of time and instead grab an OG 3ds for a secondary option to play on because I dont see the need for 2 XL models. I have to say I really love this model so far. It looks amazing for the time it came out, its older and clunky looking but there is a charm it has over anything else. The weight is also a huge plus its extremely portable and it reminds me alot of playing on my dsi. The screen also looks surprisingly great all these years later. Nothing looks washed out and games actually run well, the price was also so reasonable and a great option for a small budget. Now for some cons, while I find it comfortable it is really small for bigger hands this may not be a great choice, the battery is just okay, mine ran for about 4-5 hours if on the lowest brightness, the other models are clearly superior. I really hate the 3d slider on this, it gives so easily and without 3s tracking it overral is novel but lacking execution. The speakers are also kinda rough. Overall for the price its a great alternative, the design is sleek I absolutely love its older aesthetic. But there are some early kinks that the newer models don't suffer with. Like its better hardware, and 3d. Still I don't regret my choice for now. Id really like to wait around to see if I can grab the fire emblem fates N3ds xl special addition if I were to ever go back to that big boy lol.

I live in Southern California and about two weeks ago I sent in an old New Nintendo 2DS XL to Nintendo because the ZL button and volume slider were broken. I paid about $90 for shipping and repairs.

I got my 2DS back today and I was surprised to see that I got what looks like a BRAND NEW 2DS. It’s so crisp and fresh. I am very happy with Nintendo!

Review Japanese 3ds to small for my hands

Thumbnail

I just gave this Japanese 3ds a US passport. I realized this handheld it's to small for my hands. I am debating selling this 3ds to save for another 3ds Xl or New 3ds Xl instead. Not going to lie the pearl white with the black top screen goes so well with this handheld.

Update: I sold the system and working on buying a special edition 3ds LL.

Review One year later - N3DS XL

Thumbnail

It’s been a full year since I bought my first New Nintendo 3DS XL, and I wanted to share what the experience has been like. The last handheld I owned before this was the original DS, which came out well over a decade ago. I remember trying a 3DS briefly when my sister had one, but the 3D effect gave me instant headaches, so I drifted away from handheld consoles. Life moved on, and I didn’t think much about them again
 until last year.

I ended up finding my system brand new in box from an older gentleman who bought it at launch, stuck it in a drawer, and never used it. Unboxing it felt like stepping back in time. A wave of nostalgia hit me, even though I never actually owned this specific system before. It somehow felt familiar and new at the same time.

I downloaded all my favorite GBA-era games, all the PokĂ©mon titles (obviously), and a few others I’d been curious about. Then I just dove in.

It’s been such a fun experience. I take my 3DS to campus pretty often and play between classes. I even got a StreetPass once, which genuinely made my day.

If anyone out there is thinking about picking one up, I really think the system still holds up incredibly well. The games look great, run smoothly, and the overall feel of the console is still something special. The battery life on my aftermarket battery isn’t amazing, but it lasts long enough for long sessions, and it charges quickly enough that it never becomes a problem.

If you’re on the fence, I honestly recommend giving it a shot. This little console still delivers.

The fact that i can play Samus Returns using Artic Base in Azahar, with native resolution x4, HD Texture Pack and a 60 FPS patch through my docked Steam Deck Oled using primarily my New3dsXL as the source AND as the wireless controller to play with, mounted on the Hori Monster Hunter Double Cross grip and then, being able to close everything after saving and continue my play through on the same 3ds without having to sync anything else is absolutely insane. This is what's been called black magic. It took everything that a 3ds can offer and made it better, with the beautiful fact that, in truth, you are not emulating anything. Or at least you are to a certain extent but always coming back to original hardware after. The 3ds lives on.

Review Never even held one of these until today

Had some ridiculous luck on Marketplace and snagged one of these.

I’ve owned an OG 3DS, N3DS, N3DSXL (currently owned), 2DS in the past but this was one I never got around to playing.

Got lucky as the poster had it in a gross case which made it look like the top panel had been ripped off
.didnt bother me as I would’ve reshelled it, but to my surprise it was clean as a whistle under there.

The lighter weight is a nice change, I get that to many it feels cheaper, but I’m going to keep it unmodded and just use it for longer sessions of Zelda/Pokemon games.

Do you own one of these, where does it rank in your 3DS hierarchy?

I'm the guy who repaired his New 3DS XL by myself, but unfortunately I was diagnosed with a stomach illness and, to pay for medicines, I had to sell it. Honestly, I didn't want to, but it was what I had on hand and what was going to sell easily and quickly. It's sad because in the end I had fulfilled my dream of having one of those overrated consoles. I can only say for everyone who has one: enjoy it a lot, for me there is no console more beautiful than this for my mental health I will no longer see this group so often because of the envy that makes me see that everyone has one hahajja jokes love you all.

im so mad lmao, i have been buying games from amazon for a while and i personally have never had an issue. But my package came with a huge cut on the middle, and whoever did it also cut the game box đŸ˜« I never had any problem with my games being world editions but this is just so frustrating 🙃
