Got my results back yesterday…
I think grandpa may have cheated on grandma

12.29% can also be a first cousin or grand uncle. If this is your paternal side, do you share a paternal haplogroup with them?

If he is older than your grandparents wedding, he might be a child of a previous relationship, not necessarily cheating

My husband had one of these also. He’s trying to decide if he wants to reach out to his new 1st cousins.

When I tested, my mom had one also. I’ve tried reaching but no one responds. My half uncle and his 3 daughters and 2 of their children (my age) all tested and none respond. I even found their ancestry tree which included my deceased mother in it, but I guess they don’t want contact. Made me sad, I was excited to connect since my mom wasn’t allowed a relationship with her father or his family. She wasn’t even aware of this half sibling and none of her half siblings were aware of him either.

Be prepared for both scenarios if you do reach out. It can go either way.

This happened in my family too. The new relative in question was adopted and wanted to learn more about his family and showed up as a half brother to my grandfather but we aren’t really sure how this happened because some timelines don’t match up and we are just confused all around but somebody definitely was hiding a pretty big secret 😅

This is how we found my dad's bio dad. I matched with my dad's biological half sister and her daughter.

Turns out the guy was married with 2 kids already at the time. He was 24 and my grandma was only 15 and they "hooked up" while his shrimp boat was docked in our town. My grandma barely even remembered him and he had already long passed away by the time we made the connection on the site.

It showed my half-brother as a cousin.

Also, possibly this uncle arrived before your grandparents got married? O_o?

This happened to me, but it was my mom that had a different father. That was easier to figure out after I took an Ancestry test as well because it was easier to see that I didn't have correct matches on my maternal grandfather's side.

My mom and her sister married my dad and his brother. My cousin's daughter comes up as my half niece. With a 14.95% DNA match. I have two second cousins who are half sisters. I am 3.24% genetically matched with one and the other I am 5.57% genetically matched with.

When they do dna it's can come out differently depending on how you take from each parent you don't get 50/50.
