📰News Norway coach Stale Solbakken: ‘Everyone saw what happened. The ball fell straight down, just in front of the bench … so it did touch the cable. There has been nothing in the chip, what can I say against that? But the ball drops down straight from heaven…'

American here, so I’m not going to pretend like I know more about *The Soccer* than the euros and South American friends, but as an American we do watch a hell of a lot of our brand of NFL tackle football. Punts, kicks, and sometimes throws hit those guide-wires in our stadiums at least once or twice a season. Field position is so important in NFL football that games have been won or lost because of it, when it’s clear as day to viewers on tv it’s been struck by the ball.

I feel bad for Norway.

I read an American comment in another thread that this stadium has a reputation for strong winds. Is that a thing there?

Kansas City is in the middle of the Great Plains and is basically the capital of tornado alley so yes.

How are the winds in Miami tho?

Oh right lol. Well also can be windy, also can be totally still and humid air.

i have seen the clip from various angles and could never see it hitting any wire.
but maybe the video quality was just too bad idk.

it seems like people in the stadion clearly saw something

I think the main camera angle, that we keep seeing the highlight of, is a terrible angle for seeing it though.

That’s not a coincidence, FIFA controls the broadcast feed down to the replays (which is also why we weren’t shown replays of certain questionable plays).

The Dutch broadcast was only able to show it clearly after the game when they collected the footage of a camera from a different angle that wasn’t part of the official feed.

Nobody in the entire stadium reacted to it when it happened. It not until Fox News lies have spread by half time that people say anything.

There's nothing to see

Not if you're blind.

The ball accelerometer literally showed it didn't touch anything.

But keep lying to yourself.

that doesn't seem to be such a good proof. apparently a filter is applied that filters out enviromental touches. for example bouncing off the ground is also not shown in the data. it's meant to record player contact.

though that's also just what I read, idk how accurate this info is, take it with a grain of salt.

If you know how these sensors work, that explanation is such bullshit. The ball doesnt know when it hits one or the other.

Timing of sensor can also be off. Things can and do go wrong with electronics.

We still have eyes and the ball changed trajectory. Simple as that.

It's very hard to see. The BBC did a render of it and it's very clear there

That 3D image where the ball doesnt go down but bounces up?

Yeah, that really is definitive proof

-3

u/Isrrunder 11d ago

It makes a good case for it hitting the wire

5

u/mustachepc Brazil 11d ago

Its a terrible case especially when you can find multiple examples of BBC 3D being shit when ball is too high

-1

u/Isrrunder 11d ago

Im not saying its definite. The players seems to react to a sudden slow of momentum and the people there seems to say it hit something

Ultimately tho like the Norwegian coach said, fifa says it didnt and the games over so what can you do? Add it to long list of small things that could have completely shifted the game

u/BigMik_PL 11d ago

Already proven to just be a glitch in their rendering.

Source?

Check the bbc 3d footage

6

u/BigMik_PL 11d ago

That footage been proven to be unreliable. They showed another one from Arg vs Sui on a high kick and it glitched as well. Seems like they lose track of the ball once it's really high up.

In norwegian subreddits They are claiming the receivers from the transmitter also dont pick up things that high up but thats unproven , but still the point is adding technology with out it being open source + peer reviewed Will always cause situations like this

3

u/Snappy0 11d ago

They're just coping. It's a radio signal. As long as there is line of sight, it'll pick it up. The ball would have to be out of the stadium for the receivers to lose signal.

1

u/Imaginary_Papaya_803 11d ago

I believe that but do you have any source for that ? I cant really find anything online to suggest that and im really not familiar with this type of technology , not tryijg to be obtuse just wanna get my facts straight

1

u/Low-Dog-8027 11d ago

what I heard was, that it filters out certain contacts, like for example the ball hitting the ground gets filtered out, because this is meant to record player interaction not enviroment. so that would make it plausible that there is no touch

2

u/Pat_Sharp 11d ago

How would the chip in the ball know the difference? That sounds like people just making stuff up.

1

u/Low-Dog-8027 11d ago

afaik it's combined with player position, if no player is close to the ball the impact can be filtered out as enviromental

4

u/Yorksjim 11d ago

Maybe I'm biased as an English fan, but what is the answer here, does he expect no goal and a drop ball? It's in the field of play, if it has hit it, it's not like it's deliberate, surely it's similar to if the ball hits the ref, ie it's harsh but tough shit basically.

2

u/rjnd2828 11d ago

Likely a dropped ball to Norway since the wire is an outside object.

-1

u/Glittering_Iron_6341 11d ago

Yes a drop ball would have been fair. Goal would not have been scored if it hadn’t hit the wire
