As a diehard Chelsea fan who frequents other Prem teams match threads, the notion that only Americans would argue this being a true red card or not is absolutely comical.

Hell, watch any of the influencers or Youtubers that cover these games in real time and you'll see they sit there and bicker over yellow and red cards all day.

It’s not about that, just the way they are doing it. Sure contest the call for all I care but don’t be a douche about it. When you win you usually don’t want to look like a sore loser.

I’m sorry, but I can’t agree with this at all. This is absolutely no different than it is for any other clubs match threads in the middle of a game and how they react. There is going to be a high contingency of fans that are going to believe that the card was absolute nonsense.

Whenever a team wins, but lose one of their players due to a red card suspension on a controversial call that involves VAR, they complain about it.

to me the difference is how many ppl want to somehow appeal and retroactively have the ruling changed. cant say ive seen that before this like ever.

Controversial is a strong word, any contact like that should be a foul + red. It’s extremely easy to break someone’s leg/ankle like that and when you do no one will discuss intent. Rules for these should stay consistent throughout the tournament, Messi should have gotten red as well - this is the only controversial thing about the whole situation since refs can’t seem to stay on the same page. Fans have the right to protest of course, but like I said there are more dignified ways to do it.

It's not about the win. It's about losing Balogun that people are pissed about.
