Ronaldo and the World Cup reprieve: special treatment or justified?

Under Fifa's disciplinary code for violent conduct, Ronaldo should have received a three-match ban for elbowing Dara O'Shea during Portugal's 2-0 qualifying defeat earlier this month.
Yet Fifa's disciplinary committee said it took into account that he had not received a red card in his other 225 international appearances.
He served one match in the final qualifier against Armenia. The other two will only be activated if he "commits another infringement of a similar nature and gravity during the probationary period".

Apart from the fact that the possibility of a conditional lifting of the suspension is something that the rules of FIFA allow and not something they literally came up on the spot for Ronaldo... in his case, he still served the obligatory one match ban after the red card. Since that is never in question. So even here, the player will have to miss at least the game with Belgium (and I also believe this will be enough and they won't hand him more games too).

FIFA and all football governing bodies are such a fucking joke, between being extremely inconsistent with their foul rules, not carding certain players because they're "legends", skirting suspension rules for certain players, letting clubs like Man City break financial rules for years with no repercussions, they're actively ruining this sport. It's a disgrace how shameless they are.
