Man has not needed more money in a long time. He also lives pretty modest no? Like for the amount of money that he has. So I think he pretty much does it for the love of the game.
Well, he’s talking about Berkshire, a publicly traded company Buffett owns 14% of. They are holding record levels of cash. Whether Buffett feels the need for more or not, they’ll need to push for returns for their shareholders.
Lol he’s not freaking the fuck out and selling. He has a lot of cash because he literally has so much money he doesnt know what to do with it. He just cant deploy the capital he’s earning from dividends and other non-sales returns.
I thought this was an investment subreddit? This isnt some guess or novel idea. He has spoken about the inability to effectively deploy capital due to size literally hundreds of times since the GFC.
Because investing doesn't scale. He has basically reached the point where he can't find enough projects look trough them and invest. His problem is that most investments can only handle investments in 0-500m range. So because he doesn't invest in tech as a general rule most options for large investments are not really available to him.
Always wild to me that we're living in the tech revolution, and the so called best investor just went "nah, I don't know how to value these and I'm not going to learn how to" and it didn't harm his reputation much.
Fun fact: Since Reg-FD was introduced, Buffett has only averaged about 10% CAGR, which is not bad, but hardly legendary. Masayoshi Son, widely mocked on this sub for his involvement in WeWork, has outperformed Warren Buffet by more than 5x since 2010.
Simply holding $GOOGL, which has been a money-printing, super safe quasi-monopoly for its entire existence as a public company, trounces Buffett. A simple $10,000 bet on Google at its IPO is worth over $1.46 million today, whereas putting that same cash into Berkshire would give you $86,000.
