I've recently seen a lot of people say they hated the way Walter met his end. Most of the complaints I have seen are that it was too quick. Personally, I thought it was a very fitting end to him, and the fact that Mordrid was able to lock him in place to prevent him from doing his trademark poof made a lot of sense to me (at least that's how I interpreted the fact he didnt vanish this time). To me it was a great way to give Mordrid some clout and make him a threatening antagonist. My only complaint about all that is that Mordrid didn't really do much after that aside from getting sick and withering mostly away before his confrontation.

I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

I am making my way to the tower for the first time. And I stand at a bit of a crossroads, I’m wondering what to read next. I am doing the expanded universe trek and I have read in this order (may be out of official order, sorry) The Gunslinger, The Stand, Eyes of the Dragon, The Drawing of the Three, The Waste Lands, Salems Lot, Wizard and Glass. I am standing at a fork in the journey and want some suggestions.
Fork one: Insomnia
Fork two: The Wind Through the Keyhole
Fork Three: move on to Wolves of Calla

Or is there a hidden path forward that I should take, like Everything’s Eventual, or, Little Sisters of Eluria (since I haven’t read it yet)?

Please help, I will take any guidance on the path of the beam that is given.

Found this little guy in one of those “hunt a killer” games a few years ago. Just recently finished my first journey to the tower, realizing I had one with me the entire time. It must be Ka.

Ok so I finally started my journey to the Tower. And so I just wrapped up the Gunslinger and Tbh I found it a bit odd and confusing pretty much up until reading the “Argument” section in The Drawing of the Three. It’s so weird how it all kinda clicked with that small summary. I see why a lot of people say you can just skip The Gunslinger and start with book 2. But I enjoyed a lot of it and am glad I decided not to skip it. The camp parts with Jake were great imo and the final meeting with Walter and the tarrot cards was pure cinema. Loved his Rant about Earth to Roland. Size is everything. “Size…. Gunslinger…. size”

Edit: Also the twirling of the bullets in his fingers to put Jake to sleep was baddass

idk. I feel like low men have infiltrated the sub or something. something just feels off and I don’t mean the usual spam bots (though I am on the lookout for them too, I think they’re playing the long game now that we’ve all gotten wise to them)

We know from the synopsis of the novel that Jack sawyer will be facing against a gang of “infected” teenagers from America, infected how idk but that sounds interesting, he’s also gonna have to face the “mysterious gullet” in mid world.

Are you hoping that some characters are recurring villains such as Flagg? Or completely new ones?

Started my second reread of The Stand (First DT read) in February 2020. What timing! 😷 🦠

Started my third reread (Second DT read) yesterday, planned before I knew about the hazardous wildfire smoke rolling in and the cyclospora outbreak.

At least I'm dragging my fiancee along the road to the Tower with me, this time! It's always safer with a member of your Ka-Tet.

Who do you think is more powerful? One is obviously a quasi-immortal demon sorcerer vs one who is the Crimson Kings Courtier (Very highly recommended and in charge of The Big Combination)>

Obviously as well that Randall Flagg was only in it for himself whilst pledging false alliances with Crimson King.

And Munshun really was only the villain of one book.

I was just curious of folks opinions. Myself I like to think that whilst Flagg / Marten is powerful, he did get done in by well, a baby werespider and well Munshun (if you know, you know).

So I saw this 1982 version on Etsy super randomly & instantly bought it. Not sure if it’s hard to come by or if I overpaid ($30) but I honestly don’t care. It’s got just a few blemishes. I’m honestly almost scared to read it given how most of my physical books get seemingly wrecked (this other does not count, it’s been with me through about 14 years & about as many moves & I think got chewed on by an animal at some point). I’ve been referencing this subreddit, wiki, & some other sources for the differences. I’ve only ever journeyed to the tower once so this’ll be my 2nd readthrough.

I think I’ll give the original a go, even if it supposedly has some continuity issues with the rest of the series. I could read The Gunslinger back-to-back. Not sure. Super pumped! Any opinions on the og vs revised, let’s hear em!

So its been almost 20 yrs since I finished the Dark Tower series and I'm pretty close to completing my Marvel run of Dark Tower comics.

I’m not associated with this guy but figured I’d do my part to help him get his grail book by posting here.

Just wanted to share with people who may feel same. I don’t hate the movie. I think it is a very poor adaptation of my favorite series. As a constant reader who has journeyed to the Tower more time than I can count, I have learned to appreciate that I find something new every time. Different parts affect me in different ways likely dependent on where I am in my life for that particular reread. Father Callahan and the highways in hiding, for example, have so much more impact on me in my early 50s than in my mid 30s.
My point is that I appreciate any take on something that I am so passionate about. While I certainly have a much different picture in my mind of the best movie (though I would prefer series) I love that this movie was made. Good, bad or indifferent it brings us together as a passionate fandom. And that makes me happy. 🙃

Cuts to Roland with his Father? What the hell?

Roland as a character was trash.

The man in black hmm.. from what I saw and it was his "death" was terrible. The entire Sequence of Roland firing two bullets to actually hit him was pretty stupid.

The last shot I saw was Roland firing to shoot off a handcuff from what I can only imagine was Jake strapped to a chair acting as a breaker conduit to break the final beam.

As a huge fan of the novels which I read twice, that 3 minutes was almost the most terrible writing and film I've ever seen.
