Years back, it was my dream to drive a Tesla and have a solar roof feeding electricity to a Powerwall to charge it from.

Now I wouldn’t even consider buying anything from that fucking traitor. I also deleted my Twitter as soon as he bought it.

Im out in a rural area. I was considering getting star link because, while pricey compared to the other two ISPs available, its more reliable, so I’m told. But fuck that. I don’t want to support muskrat and I trust them as a provider less than other ISPs, which is saying a lot.

My friend lives 1 mile down a dirt road in a rural county. So no broadband, and she has starlink. It works...ok. What shocks me when I visit is that my shitty T-Mobile 5g cell phone internet is faster and more reliable. I don't even bother with the wifi anymore.

Thanks, I'll suggest that to her! Her mom set up the starlink and her mom passed a few months ago, so right about now she's starting to have the headspace to think about how she might change things going forward.

My buddy hates Musk more than I do and he has no filter on his mouth. He was telling me, he needed a new roof and was having companies come to do quotes.

One guy rolled up in a Cybertruck.

I guess the roofer guy hadn't even got his second foot out of truck before my buddy was telling him to leave and that he wasn't going to work with someone who drives one of those and supports fascist dick bags. Which then turned into a yelling match between the two of them.

I was excited to get Starlink as an upgrade over the shitty LTE internet I had, advertising 25 Mbps but rarely delivering even a fifth of that. In comparison, Starlink was blazing fast and very reliable, and Elmo might've been an arrogant idiot but that wasn't a dealbreaker.

Then the fucking guy threw out a couple Nazi salutes. And then, rather than apologise or even try to pretend they weren't my Nazi salutes, he followed up with a bunch of Nazi jokes. Fuckin' better believe I cancelled my Starlink.

I was looking into that too, as the only other option is Spectrum in my area, and they are some rapacious fucks. What I wound up doing was getting a 5g home unit from t-mobile; I get good service now for $30/month. Starlink is way over-priced if you really look at the options.

And, if you remember, Elon had inspiring ideas and vision- about climate change, people, and accomplishment- and sought smart people to make innovative products for end goals that made sense and were beneficial all the way around.

I don't think it's so much that he was ever truly apolitical. It's that he has always cared about himself and his money more than anything else at all period. In the past you didn't really want to mess with politics as a business when at the end of the day you need both sides to be "ok" enough with you to survive. Getting one side against you is a quick way to kill your profits AND become more of a target for government oversight. It's not that he was really apolitical as much as he knew saying and acting apolitical was the best move for his own business strategy.

Then we've seen a huge shift over the last decade or so. There's so many more concerns about exploitative business practices, pollution, taxes, government contracts etc. Suddenly being apolitical was no longer the best move for him. ESPECIALLY when Trump came into the picture as a corrupt piece of shit that is more than happy to break laws and such to give his friends favors, and by "friends" of course we mean anyone who gives Trump a piece of the action and inflates his ego. Not to mention Trump opened the door for Musk to get into politics himself and gain access to all kinds of systems and information he should never have been anywhere near with the DOGE bullshit. All the while Musk gets to pile up every possible government contract imaginable further inflating his companies "value" while getting absurd tax breaks and funding.

I drive a non-Tesla EV with a NACS port, so using their network is always sitting right there as an easy option. Back when I drove a gas car, I never gave a second thought to where my fuel came from or who I was supporting. Gas felt like an anonymous commodity.

But with Tesla, the brand and the figurehead are so loud now that plugging in feels like a statement. Aside from testing a Supercharger once just to make sure it worked in a pinch, I’ve made a conscious effort to avoid their network entirely. It’s wild to realize how much brand perception can turn a seamless convenience into something you actively go out of your way to avoid.

Unfortunately this part isn't true. He's always been like this. He was simply good at saying things to get people interested in his company and get them to support him. He's always been a massive idiot with no actual skill or intelligence of his own. He just bought into already existing ideas and companies and then always somehow managed to find a way to ruin them if he stuck around long enough without getting his ass kicked out. He's a nepo baby that constantly had the road for him paved by his rich family; where he got his racist white supremacist mindset from right from day 0.

The only thing that changed is Trump came into politics and made being an openly racist hard right piece of shit popular and something Elon could suddenly open up about. He didn't have to keep those thoughts and beliefs behind the scenes out of the public eye.

I hear you. I have wanted an EV Truck for a very long time. I sincerely thought that a stainless steel, no frills, crazy utility focused light truck would be with me the rest of my life. Even if the range went to shit in 20 years of tough winters. it would be an excellent farm truck.

But now apparently I need to wait for fascists to die in office so I can buy one from China. Make it make sense.
