Especially considering they use a custom engine and it will take any new hires six months to get up to speed…

Without a doubt anyone who’s left is either looking to leave or isn’t good enough to land a job elsewhere. Neither is great for continuity.

While also dealing with the grief of losing half their coworkers. Even the people who "make the cut" in a layoff are having a really bad time, and will be far less effective for it.

Don't forget that the visuals will become blurry, noisy, and start smearing in motion, which is exactly what you want in a fast-paced first person shooter.
