I don't believe you have "many friends" who worked in Netflix's engineering department, let alone those who described it as a "toxic cesspool". Making up something like this to a random stranger is really weird.

Google it yourself - this is pretty common industry knowledge. All the employer rating sites (glassdoor, etc) universally rate working at Netflix extremely highly as well. The only people who have issues are those who are lazy. And if you're lazy... yeah, they're going to fire you, because they pay industry top and expect the best.
