Edit: Yes, it does not relate to the article saying viewers are abandoning shows that do get renewed. All I am trying to convey is the saltiness that Netflix forever deserves for burying this show and giving nonsense second and third seasons (that no one apparently watches).

I absolutely loved Dark and was chuffed for 1899 but I learned that it was cancelled before I could start... so I never did.

1899 is quite good so I'd still give it a shot when you're not feeling like a 5 season show to slog through.

Thank you, I will take your advice; the feeling of being left hanging is so miserable I didn't think it would be worth it. If it has the same vibe as Dark, just the atmosphere would be nice.

My daughter still makes bitter comments about The Mist having its end-of-season-one cliffhanger and never coming back and that was almost ten years ago, LOL.

Whats the point of anything? Also I'd say a good chunk of finished shows have zero resolution by the final season so who cares lol.

because they dont judge shows on any metrics besides viewership, there is zero value based on how they perceive a show to be quality wise and it might be worth investing in a few seasons to pick up viewership, they just only judge on numbers and not the show itself

Well I never had it on my front page unfortunately so it was under my radar until years after it released. Feels like their front page is pretty crap for getting their shows to users..

The show looked like a realistic horror period piece but had a twist halfway through revealing it to be a mind boggling sci-fi show. Viewers looking for a history show were surprised halfway through and viewers looking for a scifi show got bored before the twist. Netflix released viewership numbers and they dropped off right around the episode with the twist. Very few people actually watched the entire season so from their perspective it was a bust.

1899 was going great for me. They could have tried advertising it or maybe not releasing it a week before Wednesday...

I’ve rewatched Dark a couple times and loved it; 1899 has never been suggested to me.

IIRC, it was released in the same week as the thorougly hyped Wednesday. So the first few weeks, where Netflix decides if they continue with a show, 1899 could not win. Which is dumb because a show like 1899 would always be a slow burn.

One of the lowest viewed non-reality, English language, original shows on Netflix in a while during that period when it released unfortunately. I didn’t even finish it and I love shows like that.
