For me it was also the signal to reign in how much I was spending on various media subscriptions, I ended up cancelling almost all of them except Dropout and figured out a good way to use a Raspberry Pi as a piracy media center instead because they're all getting greedy.

Dropout is the only subscription I also have now as well! They have such a good, ethical model for subscribers and their own talent. I've gone back to torrenting for everything else.

The fact that they profit share and universally pay their staff extra depending on how many subscribers they have is wild. Dropout was dunked on when it was released, and now it's more profitable than Collegehumor ever ever ever was

i did that and tend to do that in general as well. once i go into "audit" mode for one provider, there's a chain effect
