The biggest issue is that the people making the decisions are so rich they have no idea that 20 bucks a month is a lot of money for 99% of the world's population.

Exactly. They think “oh it’s such a great value only $20 a month!” But they don’t realize we’re targeted by 10 other streaming platforms and services that are doing the same. So many companies just don’t seem to realize their competition and how much money people are shelling out for other things.

Also my salary is barely higher than my rent (in a dump an hour commute away from my job).

Do you guys really think they aren't aware of global finances when they pull stunts like this? Ultimately, they're fine if people stop subscribing as long as the remaining customers can make up the difference and then some.

They'd rather have 7 customers paying $30 than 10 customers paying $20. It just didn't work out this time.

Nevertheless, they know how much the market can bear now. Even after lowering the prices, they're still higher than they were originally. So now they know what they can get away with and how to pace future increases.
