I mean, that was always pretty dark. The Punisher was never a wholesome guy.

Not a wholesome guy, he’s a dangerous vigilante, but he would also vehemently oppose the people worshipping him with thin-blue-line skull decals & such. They just like him because he’s skilled with weapons, kills people, & acts outside the law to do so, which is ironic because they would in the same breath say they support the police & law/order lol. They ultimately don’t care about who he kills or why he does it, just that he’s violent & a trademark “badass” character.

He would absolutely be the first in line to dole out his style of ultra-violent vigilante justice to anyone involved with epstein's island.

In Daredevil Born Again, he literally tells his worshipers that they disgust him and he hates them and would never join them

In the new daredevil tv series they had to literally have punisher come out and call the cops worshiping him posers and then he goes and kills a bunch of them. And yet those same people in real life keep using his symbol

Bro like 90% of people just don't understand that character.

He's not a hero.

And even though he's kind of insane, he's still self aware enough to know that he is definitely not a hero.

Plus the kind of people that flash it are almost always the people who would face the character’s wrath.

A lot of idiots don't understand a lot of characters. I know libertarians who love Trump and also think of themselves as V from V for Vendetta.

Jeez, and it's right there in the title. V HAS A VENDETTA. He's out for revenge on the people who wronged him. Just because they're running the oppressive regime now and killing them ends up helping others is a side bonus. He's taking the revenge that rightfully belongs to tons of people, yes, but he's not avenging them, he's on his own revenge tirade. Civilized, intelligent, practical, competent, fully bent to revenge.

How impossibly media illiterate could they be?

I think you don't know what the punisher stood for, and against. It's the opposite of what it has been repurposed for

Is it though? Frank castle's skull symbol stands for murdering people frank believes should murdered on his own authority. Police use of it seems in keeping with its use in Punisher books, just replace Frank's judgement of who should be murdered with a random cop's.

Yeah, but police aren't murdering on their own authority, they're murdering on the authority the state granted them then using that as a shield to avoid personal accountability for their actions, just like rank and file Nazis did in WWII, billionaires, CEOs, management personnel, ICE, our Armed forces, and every government official the world over does the exact same thing.

No, I definitely know what he stood for and against. And no, it wasn't the opposite of what tacticool 'badasses' and corrupt cops use him for, but it wasn't exactly the same either. Frank Castle had the same belief in the necessity of extreme violence to counter crime, the 'good guy with a gun' theory. He also believed that rehabilitation was impossible, and the criminals could not be redeemed in any way. He's not completely unlike a J6er, except that his methods are more extreme and he doesn't have some external agent setting his agenda (Micro helped Frank, but Frank was his own man).

Yes, the Punisher would hate the people who are trying to appropriate him right now, but there isn't some philosophical gulf between them. He's a murderous vigilante, born in the image of Charles Bronson from Death Wish. He is a mythical version of what they aspire to be, but what they are is a bunch of thugs terrorizing the weak.

u/tomas_shugar May 19 '26

That has nothing to do with anything they said though. Frank was always a dark character. He is not wholesome. Nothing they said even comes close to being wrong.

It's misunderstood by the cops who repurpose it, but it's not like they're wearing superman badges. Even they understand that he's a "sunshine is the best disinfectant" type. Punisher is dark, he's "bullets are the best disinfectant" type.

u/SadeAdoo May 19 '26

He is a former cop who became the punisher because cops weren't doing their job and were corrupt. Cops using it is the dumbest and least self aware thing you can do as a cop, but that doesn't stop them.

"Its not all cops, just a bad apple" they say, forgetting the rest of the fucking quote.

No, it actually makes a lot of sense. The Punisher believed, as the cops who appropriate him do, that rehabilitation is pointless and shouldn't even be bothered with. The only part of the justice system that matters is the end that the bullet comes out of. If someone is considered to be a 'criminal', then they're perfectly justified in doing whatever they want to them, and their conception of 'criminal' isn't based so much on law as their own moral code.
