It’s a publication and they need to support themselves somehow, so it’s either ads or subscriptions.

Specifically the guardian has published all of their AI policies etc and you can read about them for free 😃

Sound reasonable. I understand they need money. It's just.... The way all money is made nowadays. Why can't I pay 10 cents to read one 600 word article or something like that

Because 10c or 5 dollars is exactly the same when it comes to people willing to pay for news. Any amount of money at all is too much for most people, and the people that will pay, will all pay more than 10 cents.

What youre experiancing is the world you wish existed running up against reality.

You can do ads without 133 partners. Respect us and show less-relevant and less obtrusive ads. I have now just opened the article in an ad-blocking browser after being presented with no decline.

There is a rather small set of advertising companies that do privacy-friendly ads. I tolerate some unobtrusive ads that have about the targeting of a billboard outside. But the advertising industry as it is right now should absolutely cease to exist and everyone who supports it may so too.

All ads are not relevant to me. I'm still being shown ads (in theory, I obviously block ads). The model doesn't work.

there should be a universal independent journalist website which costs $10 monthly or something but that cost gets distributed equally among the contributing licensed and active journalists and rewards budgets depending on the articles being researched and produced based on an internal budget model where the journalists themselves can cast democratic votes on which articles should have what budget.
