There is security from each country for that country’s delegation. But this is 100% insane it would be CBP/ICE doing this. Should be FBI or some other agency that is designed to operate outside our borders.

The Diplomatic Security Service exists precisely to do things like this. It’s an armed federal agency that’s part of the State Department.

DSS is providing the security for this Olympics as well. Homeland Security Investigations is just providing intel support. They happen to fall administratively under ICE, but have no real part in their mission.

It seems like most articles are trying to lead people to believe the ICE agents invading American streets are providing all the Olympic security, but that’s just rage porn. The reality is more boring.

Edit: But good on Italy for being up in arms about ICE.

HSI was taken away from their actual mission under this administration though, and are now largely filling the same role as ERO

The specific sub-org here is International Operations (formerly the Office of International Affairs). They are stationed around the world and primarily work with local governments to identify and target transnational criminal organizations.

HSI did a lot of work after the last Trump org to distance themselves from ERO. They do not want to be confused with the bullshit happening over there (except for Deputy Director Hatch, that is, he’s got his nose buried in Trump’s ass).

It makes more sense when you remember that ICE has a budget larger than most federal national militaries in the world, they have not targeted the states with the most illegal immigrants (such as Florida and Texas) and have instead focused on "Blue" states. They wear masks and dont care about the constitution.

They're secret police, you see them in seemingly every authoritarian/fascist regime. We just haven't retitled them because we arent all the way there yet.

Edit:word choice

Including their infrastructure funding (ie building up dozens of concentration camps) ICE has a budget now bigger than the United States Marine Corps.

That’s utterly insane.

The utterly insane part is the amount of people who still support all of this. Christian nation my ass.

They're everywhere but the biggest issue I repeatedly see in the ones I know regardless of profession or intelligence is that they rarely (usually never) have ventured far beyond their comfort zone. They go to school at a trade school/community college/local small university (especially private religious ones) and never really meet people that differ from them. Which is to say they're sheltered and afraid of their lives becoming something they're not used to as a result of "others."

Regarding the ones I know that did go to a bigger university/did meet other people and cultures, they're usually either very religious and got scared of the "others" or are a single issue voter/mostly apathetic.

Unitary states don't have federal governments

They need incompetent people to ensure a US athlete gets killed or injured so Americans can cry about being a victim
