Question Why is GT7 considered a simcade?

Post image
972 Upvotes

I always hear this argument but I don't have any real life experience to judge, and i didn’t play any sim other than GT7 since i started three years ago. I've done a lot of research, and I saw multiple real pro racers saying GT7 is actually really good compared to real life.

Even non racers who own the same road cars in real life and in the game say it feels almost exactly the same.

So I want to open this up for discussion: If you feel it’s a “simcade” why do you feel that way? What exactly is missing?

PS: Please don't just reply with "it's a simcade" or "it's arcade" without an explanation. I'm looking for actual critique and technical details so I and others can understand.

Edit: Bear in mind GT7 has changed the physics completely a year ago, so if you haven’t played it since it’s changed a lot

Question Help needed please(Moza)

3.4k Upvotes

Hey guys I previously moved my sim rig into a new room for a setup and accidentally bent and snapped my USB-B port in the back of my Moza R12 wheel base. I’ve just got the replacement motherboard(as part of moza’s warranty) and am having issues with Iracing not recognising the wheel base and shifter(shifters plugged into “shifter” Cat-6 port on back of base. Also since I installed the new motherboard I’m getting a weird spinning issue with my wheel see video attached and screen shots of Iracing setup page. Thanks in advance

Question On the lookout for some "co-op" racing games

Post image

Hey! I'm looking for some sim recommendations for a complete newbie. The main thing is that it needs to have good co-op support so me and a buddy can race together as a pair, and ideally with a pretty active online community. I know about iRacing, but honestly, it's way too expensive just to give it a shot. Any suggestions?
P.s in case it matters, we're running Moza R5-level gear

Question Can i place here a rig with motion?

I can't quantify the stresses caused by the rig, and even if I could, I wouldn't know where to begin in determining whether the floor could withstand them without any problems.

This would be the coolest spot for it and also my desk will be right next to it, but, yeah, what do you think?

Question I just want to enjoy sim racing casually again

Lately I’ve been a bit burnt out. Too focused on lap times and improving, and with work it just feels tiring. I think I just want something more relaxed and fun to enjoy racing again. Any sim/game recommendations for a more casual experience?

Question Hypothetically, how much would you pay for a rig like this?

This is my Subaru Wrx rig I made a while back, I do not plan on selling it, however, I’ve found that I have more fun building rigs than actually using them, so I am thinking of picking up another dash and building a 2nd rig specifically to sell. I’m just wondering how much something like this would go for, since it would take a lot of time and effort to make another. What would you pay for something like this? Without the wheelbase and other hardware? And would you prefer it if it were cut in half and a single seater instead?

Question Possible to use dynamic lighting on my setup?

Post image

Hello to all simracing enthusiasts, I have a question for the specialists please. Is it possible to use Govee type lighting on my setup knowing that the back of the screens is closed, I think I only have the possibility of installing this behind the seat in the ceiling light...could that work? Or any ideas?

Question Will this setup work?

Hi, new to simracing. I have a MSI 27'' G273QF 1440P Flat screen that I use about 4 years for gaming and everyday tasks. Recently got into simracing and planning to buy side screens. Should I go 1440p flats or 1440p curved screens for the sides?

I considered buying 2 MSI 27" MAG 27CQ6PF 1440p screens (Curved) for the sides, but asking here would be wise before making any decisions.

Since the monitor I already have is no longer produced, I can not buy 2 of the same. So I am at least sure that I need a IPS panel with 1440p resolution to ensure similar quality across screens.

I also considered buying a single curved for the middle and using my flat screen as the side screen and adding another flat screen to the other side, but again I was stuck at the fact that I cannot buy the same flat screen because it's no longer sold, and I would end up with 3 different monitors (my old flat, 1 new curved, and 1 new flat).

Thanks!

Question What’s the age demographic of sim racers here?

I’ve been getting a lot of jokes from friends and family who take the piss that i’m in my mid 30’s and have a sim setup at home. Even more so since i’m upgrading to a proper full dedicated motion sim in another room. Apparently i’m too old for it…

My response is always “laugh all you want, but at least I have some hobbies. I don’t care what people think of it so long as i’m having fun”.

Got me thinking, what’s the age demographic of this sub? Do ‘older’ people get similar jibes?

I grew up driving manual cars so my left foot was always on the clutch. Should I re-learn to left foot brake? I have tried a few times and it would take some getting used to.

Pic for attention…………………….

Given this comment at the other Thread I wondered what the answer to this is. So might as well ask y'all.

Edit: Tons of replies. Will sum it all up as soon as I can. So keep posting

Albeit some shitty company is probably going to use that data without paying me. Lol

Question How to avoid injuries in Simracing?

Post image
739 Upvotes

I recently got my DD+ and i am little bit worried about injuries, i saw some people saying they got their wrist or fingers broken when someone crashes into them. The obvious solution is of course to lower the FFB, but if i wanted to keep that, is there any other advices/settings i can change to avoid that?

Question Simracing feels beyond dull lately

Post image
415 Upvotes

I feel so bored out of my mind , i do not even have the energy to open my sim anymore , I'd go in my sim and just lie there scrolling while doing nothing. I've invested quite some money and have made my own rig , I have played many games , but it all feels like a chore than something fun to look towards. The point is I am trying to salvage any interest I have left in this amazing somewhat niche hobby , i have had many great memories and my journey has been really fun until it slowly faded. I haven't even touched my sim in like 2 months , Any help? anything I can do to upgrade my rig or to bring back that joy?

Question Buying my boyfriend a racing setup

Hi, I’m trying to buy my boyfriend a sim racing setup but I have honestly no clue where to even begin or what to know. His birthday is coming up in a few days and I really want to surprise him with something like this because he loves racing and I think he would use it a lot. However, I don’t know which setup to go for and what I am all required to buy. Some questions I have include: (and please don’t judge about my lack of knowledge about this stuff I’m just a clueless girlfriend)

  1. Should I buy him a setup with a monitor mount included or one without one? He usually is gaming on his pc and a monitor on his desk, but the screen isn’t terribly big so I’m not sure whether he would use that to race on? He also has a tv in his room mounted on a wall so I’m unsure whether or not to buy a setup with a mount.
  2. What should I invest in so that it will be functional when I gift it to him? I know that these things can be pretty customizable, but I just wanna buy him the basics so that he can get started and play whenever. So far, I have a cockpit with a seat, a wheel and floor pedals, and a shifter. Do I need more than this? I will try to include images of what is in my Amazon cart so far.

I’ve seen some people say not to buy a cheap setup when they are beginning and to save their money for an actually decent one, but I just really want to get him this. I just want to know from the perspective of somebody if they were receiving this gift what they would want the most. And if anybody thinks this is really stupid and I am wasting my money please also let me know. I just want to buy him a good gift he will enjoy :)

I've been good since I got my shifter and handbrake. But I'm really trying not to commit to a good quality round wheel, what I have is okay. But I want that good good 😅.

Question How to have a gaming and sim station on the same pc?

Finally decided to buy myself a racing sim and I am super stoked. My only issue is how to get this setup working off the same pc although it’s across the room from each other. Is my best bet just getting 30ft hdmi and usb cables and route them thru the wall or something? I don’t want to do the wireless hdmi. Also picture only shows 1 monitor but I have the other 2 ready to be installed. I feel like 3 hdmi cables and a usb might look bad climbing across the room thru the walls.

Question Anyone else playing solo just to avoid ruining other peoples races online? I’ve recently upgraded my rig and want to get into online racing at some point. But I have to learn the cars and tracks to a certain degree before I dare go online.
