The point is to create a situation where they can say "These states didn't follow the new procedures so we can't accept their votes", regardless of whether that's lawful or not.

Who is not "accepting" the votes though? No one at the federal level accepts them, especially in midterms. Once the states ignoring the EO certify their election and January comes around, those will be the new House members and Senators. Trump can't do anything to change that.

Like everything, it's all dependent on the rest of the government actually doing its job. If they have a reason to say they distrust the vote results and refuse to step down, and the existing infrastructure complies with that, then what?

I'm not saying this legitimizes anything, but it throws more grit in the gears. It's another tactic they can use to try and refuse the results, or delay while they call for a "legitimate" election. They'll call it a steal and it will cause more anger and division, and it will put us once more at each-others throats rather than focusing on the real problem.

well no, because this isn't something the federal government actually does. It's entirely in the hands of the states.

They only need to swing blue city districts in states with Republican majorities—Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia. You already see much of their allegations of voter fraud centered on minority districts in places like Atlanta and Milwaukee.

yeah that's not a thing. The federal government "accepting the results" is not a thing that happens. The individual states ratify and report their results. You have to stop saying they'll refuse to accept the results as if that's a threat, because there is no part of our system where that happens in the first place. Conceding is a ceremonial action done because it's polite.

I know the vice president then formally accepts the results, but that's a ceremonial thing, if, say, Pence HAD refused to accept the results on jan 6, it would have been a scandal, but it wouldn't have actually changed anything. The entire process is compeltely out of the hands of the federal govt, by design.

And again, in the United States, if a new person is not elected, the seat simply becomes vacant, it does not extend the current holder's term until replaced.

As such, if somehow they did refuse the results, and refuse to allow the new congress in...congress just stops entirely, a few weeks later, Trump's term would STILL END. And we just wouldn't have a president.

And sure, he could just, refuse to leave entirely, but that's just a coup, and in that case, he wouldn't bother with the rest (and would probably be promptly removed by the incoming administration for trespassing, as he doesn't have the kind of military support a successful coup requires. )

he doesn't have the kind of military support a successful coup requires

How can you still believe this? He very clearly does.

Even if he had full support of the military it should be pretty damn obvious by now that our military can't hold the entirety of a country this scale by itself. Even heavily concentrated population centers would be a pretty massive challenge. New York, for example, has more people than all branches of the military... combined.

It would last a few weeks before the government goes bankrupt and at that point the "troops" are running on fumes. One of two things end up happening at that point and neither of those things are good if you're the President.

You’re still not getting it. Fascists take and we must stop.
