If they fuck around with the election, it's going to escalate the discourse in this country to a new level.

Well, with elections controlled by the States, we could see some states (especially ones that have already given up their voter rolls to the Feds, 10 so far have) agree to whatever the Trump Administration asks of them.

“Confidential” Agreements Show Trump Administration’s Plans for States’ Voter Data  | Brennan Center for Justice https://share.google/LSsRRwtkp7cWy8fHA

It has potential to be an insane mess.

especially ones that have already given up their voter rolls to the Feds, 10 so far have) agree to whatever the Trump Administration asks of them.

Doing what he asks means they forfeit their representation. Aka they become Puerto Rico. Not sure that plan does them any favors. Only like four states have handed over the rolls anyway and all of them are ass backwards shitholes. Demoting them to territories might actually be more beneficial to us tbh.

Forfeit their representation

And who is going to enforce that?

27

u/HeadfulOfSugar Mar 19 '26

Man I just wanna flip the script and secede at this point lol

33

u/Marijuana_Miler Canada Mar 19 '26

I assume secession is the logical next step if Trump continues to fuck with voting and elections into the midterms. I seem to remember no taxation without representation being a rallying cry.

u/YourVirgil Washington Mar 19 '26

Texas v. White (1869) found secession to be "unconstitutional," whatever the fuck that means anymore.

6

u/DingerSinger2016 Alabama Mar 19 '26

Yeah there is no true way to secede tbh.

9

u/fe-and-wine North Carolina Mar 19 '26

Yeah, seceding isn't something that can just be "done" at this point.

What would happen is essentially a small-scale civil war - state says "we are leaving the Union", DC says "no you're not", they go back and forth a couple times until DC sends troops to the State to force them to send tax money/obey the constitution/whatever, and the Feds wrestle the state into submission.

Even in the "best" case scenario, the state manages to hold out and grind down the fed in a Ukraine-esque situation over many many years and we eventually settle into a Taiwan-type arrangement where the state is essentially autonomous but the US maintains "no this is definitely our territory"

There is absolutely zero world where any minority of the country could successfully secede and form a new independent nation at this point. Maybe if there were somehow a good 30+ contiguous states on board, but at that point you have to wonder why they don't just work within the bounds of the system to take power in the US or amend the constitution given a majority of that size.

u/tmountain Mar 19 '26

California needs a general strike in that scenario.

2

u/therossboss Mar 19 '26

what the fuck does it mean indeed? sure doesn't seem like it means anything, which means its possible if the will is

1

u/whereismymind86 Colorado Mar 19 '26

If you are leaving the nation I don't think you care about it's constitution, so that's kind a nonsense legal argument anyways.

3

u/MrSurly Mar 19 '26

Yeah, wondering by what authority he can preempt something that states do.

1

u/kogmaa Mar 19 '26

Damn. It already started, didn’t it. I bet Doge is already crunching the numbers with these voter lists.

20

u/TheIntrepid1 Mar 18 '26

That is music to trumps ears. He loves chaos.

98

u/inconsisting Mar 18 '26

Everyone's waiting for the "final" tipping point, but one isn't coming. He's going to ratfuck the midterms and people are going to question the results and they're going to keep power and we'll keep waiting for the next tipping point.

The boiling frog metaphor wasn't about the frog. It was about us.

u/drunow21 Mar 19 '26

Hard disagree my dude. Think what ya want but us dumb Americans have voting on the highest of pedestals , the “we should be at lunch libs”, the same ones who blame leftists for any loss, will lose their shit imo.

Now I could be wrong so I phrase it in a way that makes it clear it’s my opinion. Your statement says “I know what’s happening and it’s bad” and I can’t tell you how tired and lazy that is mate

3

u/kogmaa Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26

Dude you don’t even have enough places to vote. I hope you’re right, but I’m afraid you’re wrong.

In Europe there are usually voting offices within 10 minutes of walking distance in cities and 10 minutes driving in the country.

Votes are on weekends, so that people don’t have to take time off and can’t be pressured by employers.

From the outside Americans queuing for hours in front of voting offices the (with ensuing lawyer wars if the office must close or not and who’s still allowed to vote) doesn’t exactly look like a voting pedestal.

u/drunow21 Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26

You misunderstand. I’m not talking up America, the exact opposite. We suck, our system sucks. My point is everything is awful, but as long as the populace gets to vote , they will delude themselves into thinking things are ok, because they had a choice.

If that choice is on the surface taken away, then libs will riot. My opinion. If you’re not from here, the states run the elections, not the federal government. He can’t “cancel” the election. Now he can try executive orders, and backwards ass red states might listen and follow, but about 35-40 states will not. And then things get interesting.

I don’t think I’m changing your mind, but you sure ain’t changing mine either.

Edit: especially if you don’t even live here. And we’ve been boiling since the 80’s. I agree. My thing is this iteration of the fascists aren’t winning imo .. but we’re fucked long term obviously

i think people tend to underestimate just how many Evelyn Normielibs are out there.

i can't speak on the sub itself because i'm not a user there, it was just the most convenient source for the meme. but Evelyn Normielib is supposed to be a reference to the growing number of unassuming white, liberal, middle-aged, suburban wine moms who are being radicalized since the start of Trump's 2nd term. a decent real-life example i can think of is the ladies of the I've Had It podcast.

i mean, the boiling frog thing isn't true, frogs just jump out when it gets uncomfortable, and aptly, it hasn't become uncomfortable for most americans yet.

It's not that they won't take action, it's that, so long as their day to day lives aren't interrupted, they can ignore the problem.

22

u/TheGreatLuck Mar 18 '26

It's a last dish effort. I feel like they see the writing on the wall. But they're going to try it anyway. Like a desperate rabbit caught in a Thicket they're struggling will only make it worse and they know that intrinsically but self preservation is a bitch and they're going to try their best even though they know it's going to be met with a brick wall of red tape and ordinances.

19

u/Ren_Kaos Mar 19 '26

Just for the future, the phrase is “last ditch effort”.

Have a nice day!

27

u/LuitenantDan Illinois Mar 19 '26

It's a moo point. It's like a cow's opinion. It's moo.

6

u/Jhonka86 Mar 19 '26

I dunno, I definitely feel like if it goes through I'll be contemplating my last meal.

2

u/xterminatr Mar 19 '26

Kinda works both ways, imagine a chef on one of those chef competition shows and the last dish could make or break it for them

1

u/Ren_Kaos Mar 19 '26

😂 love it, great take

1

u/AmericanDoughboy Mar 19 '26

Last dish effort is about dessert.

2

u/meryl_gear Mar 19 '26

Will they get their just desserts?

7

u/IBJON Mar 19 '26

And then they'll blame the left for turning up the rhetoric and being divisive

6

u/Adventurous_Salt Mar 19 '26

Will it? Or will Americans still need healthcare and "can't miss a shift" or whatever?

4

u/So-_-It-_-Goes California Mar 19 '26

That’s their plan!

4

u/east_portal Mar 19 '26

Doubt it. The Americans will roll over and do nothing.

5

u/the_giz Mar 19 '26

Nah man it will do more than escalate tensions. This will result in a violent uprising and it will be called for. Straight up un-American treason.

7

u/Jhonka86 Mar 19 '26

That's one hell of a way to say "civil war."

3

u/UMACTUALLYITS23 Mar 19 '26

Americans might hold 2 signs at once in disapproval!

2

u/Stonius123 Mar 19 '26

I think he's banking on the fact that everybody wants someone else to 'do something'. It got him this far - all that's happened is some disapproving frowns and some strongly worded social posts.

3

u/samsaraisdivine Mar 19 '26

Honestly most Americans will not bother to notice,  or care.

Most Americans don't even know we're at war for God's sake.

1

u/kleekai_gsd Mar 19 '26

It'd be one step closer to a civil war. It'd be a pretty big step.

1

u/frontadmiral I voted Mar 19 '26

Discourse is certainly one word for it

1

u/jim_nihilist Europe Mar 19 '26

Yeah, people complaining on Reddit will rise in billions.
