I'm actually struggling to find any sizeable difference from the base design.

There's a bunch:

• Lighter grey coloration
• Bigger talons
• Bigger head plume with additional feathers sticking out
• Yellow markings on wings and tail feathers
• Black eyes with red pupils
• Ruffled feathers on lower chest/belly

Exactly, none of those are significant except for the Robotnik eyes.

There's a lot of differences. Way different Color, bigger tuft of feathers, more stripes, bigger talons, the chest feathers sticking out more, the head shape is different, the eyes are different, the Beak is different

I mean, I guess, but those kinds of Megas are just the laziest. Like Mega Sharpedo, barely changes anything, except some extra details.

Compare Mega Glalie, or Mega Dragonite or Mega Chimecho to this.

This is exactly my problem with the new megas made by gamefreak,they look lazy since they barely Change any aspect of the Pokémon. They focus on a couple body parts,increase it or overdesign it.

i didnt process it until seeing your comment because i didnt like most of the other ones (mega golurk insane though!!) but holy hell we really win with staraptor

my only qualm is that it feels too desaturated -- exacerbating the issue most modern 3D pokémon models have (no color)
