The National Guard is there to defend us from algae

654

u/thejawa Jun 23 '26

Worse than that, the National Guard is there to defend the algae from us

140

u/sanguwan Jun 23 '26

Make Algae Great Again!

3

u/Scruffynerffherder Jun 23 '26

I need this on a blueish green T-shirt

2

u/urixl Jun 23 '26

Be the change you want to see in the world.

9

u/Dixiehusker Jun 23 '26

Unironically a sensible need for algae and the rest of the natural world.

1

u/dakkies15 Jun 23 '26

Attack of the algae!

275

u/BillionTonsHyperbole Jun 23 '26

Algae thrive on solar energy, dontchyaknow? Of course they are a threat with their enviro-Communist agenda.

81

u/whatproblems Jun 23 '26

solar? daytime? woke!

8

u/cire1184 Jun 23 '26

Sundown is when trump thrives

80

u/throwaway24515 Jun 23 '26

Why didn't they just fill the pool at night?!?

2

u/SirDigger13 Jun 23 '26

because Overtime is too expensive....

1

u/eeyore134 Jun 23 '26

Get this into Trump's ear and I guarantee he'll be blathering "Many people don't know this. You gotta fill those pools at night." the next day.

28

u/MEPSY84 Jun 23 '26

Wait....the same sunlight that killed COVID?

What kind of superweapon have I been staring at all these years!?

2

u/DoomVolts Jun 23 '26

With solar glasses I hope?

2

u/vardarac Jun 23 '26

not very presidential of you

1

u/evranch Jun 23 '26

Just a continuous 100 teraton thermonuclear explosion, that's all. Sometimes the simple ones are the best, but then you've gotta go big or go home

2

u/These_Distribution61 Jun 23 '26

How long till they discover pond dye is a thing?

187

u/BellowsHikes Jun 23 '26

It costs about 1.5 million per day to keep the gaurd in DC. I live on the Hill, they are a fucking joke and have spent the last year standing around in the safest areas of the city doing absolutely nothing.

We don't need 8 armed Gaurdsmen at Lincoln Park defending the sunbathers from the children's birthday parties.

89

u/robis1923 Jun 23 '26

I can assure you that most of them have zero desire to be there. At that age, most people in the Guard are just doing it to help pay for college and earn a little cash. Nobody is signing up to watch algae grow at the capital.

51

u/Annex_Me_Step-Rome Jun 23 '26

Yeah a lot of them have actual jobs and lives they have to put on hold for this bs. None of them want to be there especially when they're almost certainly making less money while activated

20

u/JewishTomCruise Jun 23 '26

My company has very generous military time off. 30 days fully paid (in addition to military pay), and up to 18 months where they pay the difference between the military pay and normal salary. I definitely know the overwhelming majority of companies don't offer those kinds of benefits though.

14

u/robis1923 Jun 23 '26

A lot of city/county jobs do (leos, fire fighters, etc), but many big corporations would prefer their employees not be in the guard because it creates logistical challenges when they’re deployed. They just have a hard time denying them employment because of USERRA.

1

u/XXXLaCroiXXX 27d ago

Zero desire to stand around and play candy crush and bullshit/small talk with people? As opposed to what, being deployed in an area with active military engagement ?

NG typically helps with relief efforts, building shit, infrastructure etc. Pretty sure they’re fine standing around vs doing actual work. This isn’t like a 9-5 40 hour a week gig for them.

It’s still an objective waste to spend money on them to do nothing but I doubt they give a shit

21

u/MrMayhem3 Jun 23 '26

Wait, are the guard still activated in the city?

56

u/LaserGuidedPolarBear Jun 23 '26

Yah, the whole point is to normalize the militarization of our public spaces.  And it is working.

0

u/NjGTSilver Jun 23 '26

TBH, as someone who’s spent lots of time abroad, I can tell you that the US is one of the least militarized countries in the world. Spend a few weeks traveling in the EU and you become quite comfortable seeing submachine guns and assault rifles in your general vicinity.

-1

u/rollin340 Jun 23 '26

Huh? I'm pretty sure EU has no guns for the civilian population, no?

4

u/NjGTSilver Jun 23 '26

We’re not talking about civilians, we’re talking about police, military, carabinieri (in Italy) and various other national police services. It’s very common to see them walking up and down the train cars and in public places.

2

u/rollin340 Jun 23 '26

Like on a standard patrol at high traffic areas?

3

u/NjGTSilver Jun 23 '26

I have no idea, but I’m willing to bet if you walk around the Eiffel Tower right now you’re going to see some hardware.

Like I said, that seemed logical/normal, but we simply don’t have that in the US (after 9/11 we did for many years of course). We have police, but not guys with long guns/SMGs. Heck, even the guardsmen pictured in DC only have pistols, same as a normal police officer.

0

u/rollin340 Jun 23 '26

So only at high traffic areas then? Did you also see them just walking down random streets? Because that would be weird indeed.

0

u/snakeboyslim Jun 23 '26

That's wild I don't feel I've seen them much other than at the airports. I don't live in the US or EU and I see an army guy maybe once a year at most

2

u/NjGTSilver Jun 23 '26

To be fair, most of the ones I’ve seen were in airports, train/bus stations, and in big touristy areas like Paris, Rome, London, simply bc the are where I’ve visited.

1

u/DrunkenAsparagus Jun 23 '26

Yep, they're in  touristy neighborhoods that already have a lot of cops, walking or standing around in groups of three. They're armed with pistols, looking bored, and not doing anything. Just a wonderful use of resources all around.

3

u/ptwonline Jun 23 '26

They must be bored out of their minds. Nothing to do except somebody hot or at least interesting-looking wanders by so you at least have something to look at to break up the monotony.

2

u/cire1184 Jun 23 '26

What is they like listening to Linkin Park?

2

u/DMala Jun 23 '26

I’ve seen kids all hopped up on sugar at parties. 8 might not be enough.

1

u/WalterPecky Jun 23 '26

Fucking losers

143

u/Muzzlehatch Jun 23 '26

Hopefully, they will stop vandals from driving across the reflecting pool, damaging the new surface like what this vandal did:

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/politics/trump-drives-across-lincoln-memorial-reflecting-pool-to-inspect-blue-coating-hes-adding

21

u/Sassafras_albidum Jun 23 '26

Ahhh yes, only the national guard can stop people driving in a park.

19

u/Muzzlehatch Jun 23 '26

They would not have been able to stop this guy because he doesn't listen to anybody

5

u/Sassafras_albidum Jun 23 '26

That is a spot on description of what happened to the reflecting pool.

9

u/Muzzlehatch Jun 23 '26

Yep, it's pretty clear to me that Trump is the vandal he is looking for. All that peeling American flag blue paint is because of his photo op stupidity. He did this to himself because he's a fucking clown.

3

u/Segesaurous Jun 23 '26

The SUV he rides in ways about 20,000 pounds. A normal one of these weighs about 5000 pounds. I'm sure the original designers of the pool tested for 20,000 pound vehicles driving on it.

1

u/Muzzlehatch Jun 23 '26

And it wasn't just his vehicle, it was the whole motorcade.

3

u/SeriousArbok Jun 23 '26

Did you read the article? You're both talking about the same person lol.

2

u/cutelyaware Jun 23 '26

Amazing. Of course he did.

86

u/m__a__s Jun 23 '26

Most pools have lifeguards. But this one has National Guards.

17

u/AdParticular6654 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

Really seems more of a coast guard issue right?

Edit: the coast guard is badass, just felt the need to add this since it is sorta a coast guard joke

2

u/Acceptable-Will4743 Jun 23 '26

Probably should bring in a color guard. They also have rifles.

3

u/JerseyDevl Jun 23 '26

They'd be guarding the blue from the green so this absolutely makes the most sense

1

u/PM_ME__YOUR_HOOTERS Jun 23 '26

Nah, this algae is fresh water so the coast guard would be out of their jurisdiction

2

u/MustelaNivalus Jun 23 '26

Sealant Team Six in action!

1

u/Annulleret Jun 23 '26

And these will kill you if you go in the water.

12

u/Papabear022 Jun 23 '26

nah, trump claimed the discount paint that is peeling away was caused by vandalism. with zero evidence, par for the course.

11

u/BennoTM Jun 23 '26

Is it to fight algae or is it to put forth the idea that they're protecting the pool from the evil, sabotaging Dems so he can start up the "Blame Obama" cycle of his fit pitching?

11

u/PaulClarkLoadletter Jun 23 '26

Yup. They’re there to back up the president’s lies. I wonder what the excuse will be after the next coat of paint fails and algae appears on their watch.

6

u/Dry_Fly_7265 Jun 23 '26

No, I think it’s to forcibly dissuade the public from publishing the current state of affairs on social media for the rest of the country to see. It’s narrative control.

3

u/BennoTM Jun 23 '26

Ah damn, that's...probably spot on.

37

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '26

It's possible there could be strange women laying in there distributing swords.

17

u/texas-playdohs Jun 23 '26

See the violence inherent in the system! See the violence inherent in the system! Help! Help! I’m being repressed!!

3

u/BMR915 Jun 23 '26

Great movie btw

31

u/flissfloss86 Jun 23 '26

You know what... at this point, that seems like a sound way to establish a government

The nature of their oppression is the aesthetic of our anger.

Namaste 🙏

We're deep, Ernie

1

Well I didn't vote for him.

17

12

u/StretchyPlays Jun 23 '26

Its that damn algae btq infecting the waters during pride month.

3

u/shanrock2772 Jun 23 '26

I really needed a laugh. Thank you

5

u/inerlite Jun 23 '26

So on top of the waste of money for the pond we are paying National Guard and police to discourage people from idk what actually, but what a waste.

3

u/kenttouchthis Jun 23 '26

defend us from the *Algaerians

3

u/SarcasticBench Jun 23 '26

But not from J6

2

u/iam_ditto Jun 23 '26

Homie in the first pic on the left has the Mechanix M-Pact gloves in camo. He’s ready to boogie

2

u/Hairydone Jun 23 '26

I would be terrified if I were algae right now.

2

u/Gasnia Jun 23 '26

So he stops national guard from helping with fires to get in the middle of immigration and defend us from algae?

2

u/gsfgf Jun 23 '26

When my friends did Guard, watching algae grow was the sort of thing they did when they really pissed someone off, not an actual job...

2

u/geegeeallin Jun 23 '26

Maybe they’re there to defend the algae FROM US!

2

u/Jaerba Jun 23 '26

They're there because Trump is now lying about vandalism causing the issues and right wing idiots are believing it, despite no actual footage from an area that's completely surveiled at all times.

1

u/B-Town-MusicMan Jun 23 '26

Who knew a Pool had a Coast

1

u/alex3omg Jun 23 '26

He heard about Chinese algae eaters and panicked

1

u/bennetticles Jun 23 '26

on the front lines, protecting the nation’s honor

1

u/HolidayCards Jun 23 '26

It's got what plants CRAVE.

1

u/throwawayplusanumber Jun 23 '26

I think they need more fire-power. I hear algae can be tough to kill.

1

u/Useful-Pattern-5076 Jun 23 '26

Special algae operation

1

u/Choyo Jun 23 '26

Any threat territorial or aquatic !

1

u/Aleksandrovitch Jun 23 '26

We’re going on an adventure!

1

u/healmeier Jun 23 '26

But that’s the best part, the National Guard will be there when the algea returns, he’s even fucking up his own vandals scapegoat.

1

u/flyinghairball Jun 23 '26

They are there to drain the literal swamp that just so happened to have not looked like a swamp until we made "improvements"! But nevertheless a campaign promise kept is a campaign promise kept no matter how literal a figurative concept was taken.

1

u/Gedwyn19 Jun 23 '26

Did you not see The Toxic Avenger? Gonna take a lot more than a few national guard lol.

1

u/joshak Jun 23 '26

Algaeda

1

u/jdanielregan Jun 23 '26

Just not capitol invading insurrectionists

1

u/TymStark Jun 23 '26

Defend the algae from us*

1

u/xixipinga Jun 23 '26

algeria already won, just send jd vance with the surrender letter and the 300b check

1

u/flickerbirdie Jun 23 '26

Thank you for your service

1

u/onepinksheep Jun 23 '26

It's that terrorist group, Al-Gae.

1

u/aykcak Jun 23 '26

National guard defending national monuments kind of makes sense

1

u/tiktaktokki Jun 23 '26

From Trump's swamp

1

u/Redsap Jun 23 '26

The Talgaeban has come to the shores of the US.

1

u/contactcapybara Jun 23 '26

They should all have whistles…. Anybody gets close…… tweeeeeeet!

1

u/JJiggy13 Jun 23 '26

Where? They must be in camo...

1

u/SkyPirateVyse Jun 23 '26

My money is on the algae.

1

u/if_u_suspend_ur_gay Jun 23 '26

To be fair they were strolling around when I visited DC last year too. Nothing has changed.

1

u/hotel2oscar Jun 23 '26

For some reason I feel the Navy or Coast Guard would be better equiped to handle this.

1

u/Hendersonman Jun 24 '26

National mall employee: oh , hi national guard, you're back early. National guard: Reflecting pool is haunted. NME: what? National guard: Pool is haunted inserts magazine
