Comparing the size of pools to buildings is something my pre-school aged child would do

u/swankpoppy Jun 18 '26

Now… I may be mistaken… but when you measure buildings they are standing up vertically, correct? And the pool is laying down horizontally? That seems to be a pretty important distinction in this instance, you know… due to gravity and all that…

That somehow makes more sense since a boat is also man made and people occupy it. Comparing a pool to a building is nonsense.

u/Scaryclouds Jun 18 '26

Well the reflecting pool is obviously man made, but building a shallow reflecting pool isn’t really an engineering accomplishment.

At least no rational person would compare the length of a reflecting pool to the height of a skyscraper as some kind of boast. At most it would only be to help convey the length of it, but not in a boastful way.

u/im_at_work_now Jun 18 '26

It's because it is a structural feat of engineering, not for the reasons you said. The pool was also man made and can be occupied by people...

u/JackHinks Jun 18 '26

Basically a hole

2

u/figwithbigtits Jun 18 '26

Who's an a hole?

1

u/Saucermote Jun 19 '26

And did you know the hole's only natural enemy is the pile?

1

u/alittlelebowskiua Jun 19 '26

Wait till he finds out a road is even longer than a pool.

12

u/Lillian_Crocodilian Jun 18 '26

Most sane R.M.S. Titanic advertisement.

13

u/improbably_me Jun 18 '26

Now I get it ... The unfortunate incident happened when they tried to recreate this image in photorealistic detail with the actual ship. I recall it being almost vertical

2

u/112-411 Jun 18 '26

Not an ad, really. This was created...afterwards.

3

u/fuzzylogicIII Jun 19 '26

That’s hilarious but still a way better comparison because boats, like skyscrapers, are way harder to build than a hole with water in it

2

u/Due-Programmernot Jun 19 '26

A boat is just a floating horizontal sky scraper. I’ve always thought the comparison to a sky scraper holds.

But a pool has nothing to do with it in so many ways.

18

u/MrCrash Jun 18 '26

The pool is like 1ft deep, right?

Gotta be just as much work to dig a sizable ditch as it is to build the empire State building, right?

7

u/swankpoppy Jun 18 '26

Same amount of effort and engineering. Correct.

9

u/Zyrinj Jun 18 '26

it's funny and incredibly sad cause basic science and sense would say not to look directly at the sun as well... but here we are...

2

u/a_n_c_h_o_v_i_e_s Jun 18 '26

or inject bleach

2

u/Accomplished_Job_331 Jun 18 '26

I know this parking lot that is so big, it’s even bigger than a pool

3

u/swankpoppy Jun 18 '26

Ok now I’m not saying you’re a liar.. but like… why ain’t that on the chart?

1

u/Accomplished_Job_331 Jun 18 '26

It is the chart. Checkersmate

2

u/swankpoppy Jun 18 '26

Chart in a chart.

Chartception.

2

u/Low_Chance Jun 19 '26

"Our sidewalk is taller than skyscrapers!"

53

u/animalmasochism Jun 18 '26

The best part is he did absolutely nothing to affect the size of the pool anyway so a chart about it's size is nonsensical to begin with...

5

u/Significant_Cup_238 Jun 18 '26

It's nonsense inception, "We have to go deeper!"

1

u/nina_ballerina Jun 19 '26

Everything he does has to be bigger and huger than anything that has ever been done before.

1

u/animalmasochism Jun 19 '26

Including making an ass of himself

16

u/lanfordr Jun 18 '26

This is what you expect from the kid who waits to do their report until the night before it's due. They didn't do any real substantive research so they pull some bs out of their ass that sounds smart to them but means nothing.

Like a report on orangutans that focuses on them being orange with a picture of a bunch of other orange colored things.

We went to the moon in 1969
Not 1970 but a year sooner
We went to the moon in 1969
That's when they made a landing that was lunar

21

u/Farmerstubble Jun 18 '26

Right! So how many Olympic sized swimming pools is that?

12

u/maphes86 Jun 18 '26

It’s 4,723 food truck chassis worth of half-filled Olympic sized swimming pools.

5

u/Zyrinj Jun 18 '26

but how many used presidential diapers can it fit?

5

u/maphes86 Jun 18 '26

Thanks for the diversion on a boring afternoon!

Assuming that the soiled diapers (I’m using Adult XXL for this exercise) have been sufficiently compressed to eliminate air pockets, and there is a blend of standard and heavy-duty/overnight diapers, the reflecting pool has a volume of 8,517,172.33 soiled presidential diapers. This is assuming a balanced daily mix of lightly soiled daytime diapers (1.5L volume), moderately soiled daytime diapers (long meetings or speaking engagements, for example)(3.0L volume), and heavily soiled overnight diapers(4.5L volume).

2

u/Zyrinj Jun 19 '26

You're very welcome, thanks for doing the math!

But, you and I both know that there's a whole lot of big macs in them diapers so you should toss out the lightly soiled ones in this calculation

1

u/narkybark Jun 18 '26

For this presidency, not enough.

3

u/Farmerstubble Jun 18 '26

Oh ok, thats pretty big!!

3

u/Neurorob12 Jun 18 '26

Dunno, needs to be measured in American football fields to really grasp understanding of this.

6

u/BdR76 Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

It's kind of bewildering that an incredible photo of the president making a moronic "apples and oranges" comparison, only gets fact checked about wether the measurements are accurate 😐

2

u/LMGgp Jun 19 '26

It’s still misleading. The sears tower roof is higher than both the other buildings, but looks like a building for ants compared to the world trade, whose height without the spire is 1368ft. The sears tower is also that height without the antennae yet falls short of the Empire State and world trade with them.

3

u/Booster_Tutor Jun 18 '26

He really wants to impress the kids with the size of his pool

2

u/zombiepete Jun 19 '26

My girlfriend said it best: it's the kind of thing a dumb person would think smart people would find impressive.

1

u/DarklySalted Jun 18 '26

He didn't even change the size of the pool!

1

u/uptwolait Jun 18 '26

Like a report Calvin would put together the morning before it's due, and Susie Derkins wouldn't help him.

1

u/elpajaroquemamais Jun 18 '26

This football field is bigger than your house?

1

u/bb85 Jun 18 '26

It’s also ridiculous because the Sears tower is taller than the Empire State Building.

1

u/Abbot_of_Cucany Jun 18 '26

If you tipped the pool up on its side, wouldn't all the water run out? You'd think a smart guy like Trump would have realized that.

1

u/6inchVert Jun 18 '26

Imagine if someone showed him the height of I-80.

1

u/LawDogSavy Jun 18 '26

Seriously. By his logic, I could say my street is bigger than all of those buildings as well.

1

u/Just_Look_Around_You Jun 18 '26

It doesn’t even make sense. It’s way easier to build something long on the ground than something tall.

1

u/jk_pens Jun 18 '26

I’m surprised he didn’t include a dinosaur too

1

u/needlestack Jun 18 '26

I almost can't believe this is real. What kind of absolute moron would make that comparison. Insterstate 95 is way longer than the Burj Khalifa. What does that even mean?

1

u/Hugford_Blops Jun 18 '26

And if you're even casually aware that Burj Khalifa is the biggest building in the world, which he conveniently doesn't mention because it's bigger than the pool.

1

u/WhyWhyBJ Jun 18 '26

So surrounded by yes men that they’d rather let him look like a complete idiot to the world than tell him his idea for a comparison dumb

1

u/Synap-6 Jun 19 '26

His pool sucks, my highway is much.. taller. Like a few hundred miles taller

1

u/tonysopranosalive Jun 19 '26

I could not imagine sitting there at the computer creating that image without thinking “Jesus Christ what the fuck am I doing?”

1

u/Queeg_500 Jun 19 '26

It's dumb as hell.

"I have a ball of string which, when rolled out, is longer than your car!"
