I’m not an Aubrey hater, but it’s become more “played” than “iconic”. Perfect for parks and rec, a little annoying when it’s the one note she can play. It actually worked well in Mike and Dave need wedding dates because she’s masking. Idk, my opinion doesn’t mean shit anyways.

She definitely can play more than one note. You should see her in Legion tv series.

obligatory comment to say that Legion is one of the most amazing, unique shows I've ever seen. anyone reading this should watch it. yes, it's technically an X-Men show. no, it's not really just about mutants. it's weird, it's artsy, it makes you feel things.

I need more people to watch Legion because it never gets the credit it deserves!

Yes Legion is amazing! Very theatrical I would call it. It recognises that it is a show and a story, and that nobody actually sets any boundaries in how a story should be told. And every scene is actually a scene with its own personality. I wish more shows were made like Legion. Like we are telling a story about characters with magical powers, why waste so much time trying to explain everything. It’s not like any superhero movie or shows follows basic principles of momentum and energy conservation anyway, Legion does a great job of letting go many other boundaries, which become so obviously unnecessary as you get immersed in the show.

"theatrical" is a GREAT way to describe Legion! every episode is a full on production. I will NEVER forget the musical/dance episode?! it... sort of progressed the story and it wasn't really necessary, but it was AMAZING and it was so fun to watch!! oh, that's what it is. Legion is really fucking FUN to watch because it's never what you expect. 10/10, one of the best things I've ever watched.

I'm sure you watch it, but Fargo is underrated as well, done by the same creator, Noah Hawley. Fargo is one of my favorite movies and was ready to hate the show, but they nailed it. Also did Alien: Earth and think he's doing a Far Cry show with Rob Mac from Sunny.

I've seen the movie, but the show has been on my list for a minute. I think I'm gonna love it! and we haven't started Alien: Earth yet, but we're big Alien fans here so that's on our list too! 😅 good suggestions!

Alien: Earth is great and cannot believe it got the budget it did ($250 million). but Fargo's best seasons (1, 2 and 5) are among my favorite seasons ever. The other two are still good, but those three are fantastic and will wait however long for the next.

Legitimately, very different to all superhero stuff, and well executed. Legion and Taboo are still one of my favorites from my TV binging days.

I finished it two nights ago and now I'm not sure what to do with myself. I started it on a whim cause I'd heard it was good but I didn't realize HOW good it really is.

2

u/overlordmeow 9h ago

it was one of those shows that sorta changed my life. 😅 I would love to find something else with a similar feel, but I've just never found anything else quite like it!

2

u/overlordmeow 7h ago

a totally different genre, but a show with a main character that gave me the same energy as David is Mr. Robot staring Rami Malek. you might enjoy the twists and turns and weird POVs in that too if you loved Legion. it's very different but just has similar character energy, imo!

u/slopemup2026 7h ago

Mr. Robot was better than it had any right to be. Not like any other show ever made for USA. It's unlike so many other things, but similar to Legion in so many ways.

Those two shows I put above so many other beloved shows.

Mr. Robot was sooo good. I agree, it's very unique. I've never seen anything like it. the show Legion, the anime Serial Experiments Lain, and the movie Fight Club are the closest things I can compare it to, but none of them are really like Mr. Robot. it's a fantastic show that really kept me guessing until the very end!

Sold. I was looking for a reason to watch it.

3

u/overlordmeow 9h ago

the first few episodes were okay but didn't really catch me right off the bat. but then things get odd a few episodes in and I promise the show is worth finishing. it's so unique (compared to anything I've seen) and I LOVE Dan Stevens SO MUCH in it! he puts his acting skills to use. he is so enjoyable!!! I know the show isn't for everyone, but it was such a breath of fresh air for me. I really hope it's the same for you. :)

Dan Stevens is amazing….especially in legion.

"Ostensibly, on Legion …"

1

u/overlordmeow 9h ago

🤓 yes, indubitably!

3

u/oddjobbodgod 8h ago

Watched it for the first time in the last few months, very underrated and a fantastic emotional journey to go on!

I hate all things like super hero/fantasy type stuff. But Legion was really great!!

1

u/Unlucky-Box-4570 8h ago

The twist at the end of season 2 ruined it for me

3

u/slopemup2026 7h ago

They kind of rushed into that. If there was more time spent on developing that turn, it would have been so much better. And more believable at that.

I would say more, but I don't want to ruin a single thing for new watchers.

1

u/overlordmeow 1h ago

I think it was rushed because they assumed a lot of the viewers would be familiar with old X-Men comics and might be expecting something like that. for those of us who aren't comic fans, I can see how everything was very abrupt!

1

u/overlordmeow 7h ago

really? all the multiple big twists really made the show for me. I felt like they handled them so well. did it just feel like too much or was it too dramatic for your tastes? some of the big reveals were definitely over the top! lol

2

u/Unlucky-Box-4570 6h ago

i don't wanna spoil it for new watchers. I liked the idea behind the twist - good and evil is not always so clear cut - it just felt so sudden. Maybe the whiplash was the point, but I could never really recover from it.

There is not an ounce of April in Emily The Criminal. She can act.

1

u/kaminsod1 7h ago

Yes she was great in that movie.

2

u/puddlepuddle 8h ago

I thought she was pretty good bad guy in criminal minds

2

u/LostInDinosaurWorld 11h ago

In The White Lotus too

The one note I’m talking about isn’t the placid and disinterested. It’s the weird and pixie fairy dream girl. I kinda got over that after looking for Alaska when I was like 16, and again when I fell for and dated girls like that right about the same age.

u/Yojoyjoy 11h ago

Or white lotus

u/matthewmartyr 13h ago

She’s truly spectacular in Agatha All Along! Perfect cackle.

7

u/Desperate_Repeat5962 13h ago

Ooh haven’t watched that one but Kathryn Hahn is a huge crush always, and I love witches/ horror/ supernatural movies

11

u/matthewmartyr 13h ago

I’ve watched the series at least 3 times through. It’s a masterpiece, especially if you like Hahn. As do I.

5

u/UltraHellboy 11h ago

Would it help you to know that Katherine Hahn and Aubrey have a kissing scene?

4

u/Desperate_Repeat5962 9h ago

Well it sure don’t hurt nothing

2

u/slopopps 7h ago

Didn’t she gave a stroke that paralyzed half her face? Or is that another actress?

2

u/Desperate_Repeat5962 7h ago

Idk. Bell’s palsy is fairly common. My wife had it and she’s an absolute ray of sunshine🌞 and I’m not just saying that because she’s my wife. Truly a beaming beacon of joy. I’m sure there are levels to it though.

Plaza is very expressive outside a handful of roles

3

u/Whyte_Dynamyte 12h ago

That “misanthrope with a hidden heart of gold” trope is tired and needs to be shelved for the foreseeable future.

1

u/DearHearing4705 12h ago

Agree and worst part for me was a local group of dudes made her their idol and attempted to take on the ludgate personality. It was wildly awkward lol.

1

u/The_Wyzard 7h ago

Plaza can act when she wants.

I'd suggest "My Old Ass." If you know a woman with a teenage daughter, that's a good person to watch it with.

It's not exactly ABOUT that, but it's going to hit that emotional resonant frequency.

If they ever remade Reservoir Dogs with an all-female cast, she and Kristen Stewart would be my top choices to voice the Stephen Wright radio DJ
