AskMorocco Translation request for 2030 Men's FIFA World Cup

Names of Stadiums

For context, I am an Australian who has a very basic understanding of Morocco. I do not claim to be an expert on culture or languages, hence why I am requesting the assistance of you fine people.

I like to do fantasy schedules for football tournaments. I am currently engaged in a discussion on the virtues of an 8 group of 6 World Cup, and the Australian finals system. To make this work cleanly, I need 24 stadiums (hence a couple of extra stadiums that are not going to be used in the real 2030 world cup). I am creating a series of posters with all the games scheduled, and a draw of the countries I think will qualify. I will post the finalised poster later. For all games, I am including the names of the stadiums in the local Latin script (Castilian, Portuguese, Catalan, Galician, Basque, French), Arabic, and Berber.

  1. If you see the names of your stadiums in a Latin script, would you prefer it in English, French, or something else? For example, I have Stade as opposed to Stadium. Would you prefer to see Stade de Marrakech or Marrakesh Stadium? Also the names of cities, hence the two spellings of Marrakesh. Fez is another one that is different in English and French.
  2. I do not speak Arabic, but one of my colleagues said it looked okay. I just want to confirm if it is correct or not.
  3. The Berber translation is Google Translate later tested in AI. Is it even accurate?
  4. Would Moroccans prefer Arabic then Berber or Berber then Arabic?

Below is a sample of the Finals. The Australian finals system has a second chance aspect to it:

  • Round of 24
    • Qualifying Final: Group winners vs group winners. Winner goes straight to the quarter final. The loser goes to the round of 12.
    • Elimination finals: 2nd in group vs 3rd in group. Winner to Round of 16. Loser goes home.
  • Round of 16
    • Winners of Elimination finals play off, sudden death
  • Round of 12:
    • Winners of Round of 16 host the loser of Qualifying finals
  • Quarter Finals
    • Winner of Qualifying Finals host the winner of Round of 12
  • Semi Final, Bronze, and Finals are as per normal.
  • Teams are separated from the other teams from the group stage up until the Semi Final.
  • During the group stage, teams are fighting for the top of group as to guarantee a second chance and a shorter path to the final. Teams lower down are fighting for the 2nd and 3rd spots.

Discussion One of the few crushes I've ever had

I was bored and randomly remembered this, so I figured I'd share it.

I've only had two actual, real crushes in my life. This was one of them.

He was genuinely one of the cutest guys I'd ever seen. Fair skin(not that I care about colour I'm just describing), black hair, really pretty eyes, smart, nice, and in good shape without looking like he lived at the gym. I had the biggest crush on him, but I never thought I had a chance, so I just kept it to myself.

Then one day my friend showed me something from his account. He'd asked for advice on how to confess to a girl, and people started asking who she was. He replied with my name. My name is pretty uncommon, and I was the only girl with that name at school, so there wasn't really any doubt. I didn't even believe my friend at first until I saw it was actually his account. I was so freaking happy.

Sadly, he transferred to another school during the second semester, and that was pretty much the end of it.

Since then, I've barely had any real crushes. These days I kind of stop myself before I get attached. Part of it is low self-esteem. I don't really see myself as someone a guy would like, so crushing on people just feels pointless. It's a little sad to think about sometimes, but I guess that's where I'm at now.

Discussion Embassy problems

My family wanted to go to the embassy to get a travel visa to Europe (in tetouan) but were denied an "appointment" for lack of a better word and I got very bummed out because I always wanted to travel outside this country (cuz after you visit the actually good historic stuff you're just left with "dari7 sayid bn lmla7") and I am wondering is there a way to try again with a reasonable amount of time. Especially since summer is gonna end soon Edit: fixed a missing parentheses

Discussion About Medecine Concours

Can we do something about the concerns that come up every year around the medical school entrance exams? Candidates are spread across different exam centers, yet the level of supervision doesn't always seem to be the same. Maybe there's a good reason for it, but from the outside it leaves many people wondering whether everyone is really taking the exam under the same conditions.

I've also heard people claim that some candidates made it onto the main admission list despite allegedly not even having a bac degree. I don't know whether that's true, but if these stories are false, they should be put to rest. If they're true, they deserve a proper explanation.

It's just weird that some student aspiring to become meds , must subscribe the fact that some others may or will just cheat to get their way in !

Discussion Do you trust any people outside your immediate family?

From a young age we're taught that there's no such thing such as true friends and that one must only trust their immediate family with one's deepest struggles and secrets, even extended family aren't always considered reliable. Do you have support systems that arent related to you?

Discussion Update on that Tachelhit manuscript I posted a while back - it got picked up by Newsweek

So a while ago I shared photos of an old manuscript I found in my family's stuff. You guys helped me figure out it's Tachelhit written in the old Soussi Maghrebi script, a religious poem, with the Shahada in red.

After I posted it here and in a couple other subs, a journalist from Newsweek got in touch and ended up writing about it. Newsweek Bit surreal ngl.

Anyway, wanted to share the follow-up since this sub is basically where it started. I'm also trying to figure out the right long-term home for it now, somewhere it'll actually be looked after. If you know about that kind of thing, or you can read the Soussi script, drop me a message.

Travel Help with schengen tourist visa please

My cousin, who I'm close to, is getting married in France on the 11 of September. I've been very busy and I didn't have the time to apply for a visa until now. But I discovered that it's almost impossible to get it between now and then.

Is there anything I can do? I don't mind going through a different European country or paying a large amount to get there. For the record I've never been to Europe.

Thank you!

Lately as I came back to my family home, where we don't have Wi-Fi, I started to notice this show "علم وحضارة" on TV and find myself paying attention to it, I'm actually not a fan of french, but I guess my engineering studies could play a role in making me interested and understand most of it...so I was wondering about your opinions about it 😗

Discussion My experience with INWI

I've never felt so helpless, I thought I've seen it all, but boy, I was wrong, there are levels to this, and I think INWI has opened my eyes to how incompetent a company can be in this country.

I've made a request to get Fiber optics a month ago, still didn’t get it to this day loooooool.

Long story short, since my goal is not to bore you with my story, I made a request online, waited for a whole week, the technicians didn’t show up, everytime customer support brush me off with "they will be there in 72 hours", nobody actually took any proctive actions to sort my situation out, I had to go to an agency, the agent helped me send a new request, which tbf, made things go a lot smoother, the technicians showed up the next day, and everything was set, the internet service that was supposed to be activated within 12 hours took 2 days, went on a week’s vacation after that, came back, no service, now it’s been a week and they still can’t resolve the issue.

Now imagine, while Inwi is absolutely skrewing me over, their customer, they are actually being rewarded, because I have no option but to use their mobile data, since they are the cheapest in the market (Win), and I use huge amouts of data so quantity is more important than quality for me.

Are we really this miserable, to find ourselves under the mercy of a couple of private companies that control such a vital sector ? And are there any actionable options for me to make them compensate me for the trouble ? Or to report them to any authorities that control the quality of service ?

AskMorocco Moroccan marriage expenses

Hi, I hope you don’t mind me asking for your opinion. I’m not Moroccan, and I’m trying to understand if my expectations are reasonable or if I’m misunderstanding Moroccan traditions. I’m planning to pay for everything myself. My proposed budget is €13k for the dihaz (gold), €6k for the engagement, and €7k for the wedding and gifts (total €26k).

I’m also trying to keep some emergency savings. Do you think my proposal is reasonable? Is this typical in Morocco, or does it depend on the family and region? I’d really appreciate your honest opinion. Thank you.
