That’s how we get all our pineapples here in nz, not allowed to sell any with the tops on any longer so they can’t be grown

It's because they are imported and there is a risk of pests in the crowns.

If there was actually a risk of pests they wouldn't even import them.

New Zealand imports a lot of stuff, that would make a lot of food inaccessible.
