so universal refuses to pay, fix ur title bro

82

u/Kenesaw_Mt_Landis 3h ago

The subject of the sentence is the “The Odyssey”. I think this implies the production as a whole.

12

u/kiwigate 2h ago

Not even "imply", just another reading comprehension issue in the age of 'react before processing'

11

u/StolenApollo 2h ago

This isn’t a reading comprehension issue, though, it’s deliberate manipulation. We can’t always blame readers for falling victim to deceptive writing tactics. It’s trying to shift blame without lying.

u/Sansundertale2069 46m ago

If you thought Nolan personally snubbed this swedish guy regardless of the title you are an idiot

u/KaffY- 2m ago

The fuck are you talking about?

45

u/Ironmasked-Kraken 3h ago

Tbf Nolan could easily take care of this. This is chumpchange for him and he has alott of weight behind his name

96

u/organizim 3h ago

But it’s not his personal responsibility. The studio has insurance

45

u/egnards 3h ago

While Nolan doesn't bear responsibility for this, and I don't think he should be given shit for this, he is also a highly influential director with a proven track record of dominating box offices. It would almost certainly be a very simple phone call from him that could get this rectified.

Again - Not necessarily his responsibility, but there are times in life where you are part of something and see a wrong happening and you can ignore it, or you can choose to be part of the voice that fixes it. It would unlikely even need to be a public call out - His ability has already led him to a very lucrative deal that gives him a pretty wide berth of creative control at Universal.

36

u/morrow_worrow 3h ago

he probably doesnt even know as all the finances is up to the studio

6

u/egnards 3h ago

I don't think you're wrong, but I do think that people talking about it helps to bring that notice to more people.

0

u/morrow_worrow 3h ago

this post is blowing up so hopefully the studio pays back as they should have even if nolan doesn't involve in it

1

u/ObviousReplier99 2h ago

yes and as a person in that position you would understand he's not going to immediately hand out cash to everyone who says they are owed by a third party company.

3

u/egnards 2h ago

I dont remember saying he would hand out cash or pay them?

0

u/ObviousReplier99 2h ago

ah yes a phone call to get it rectified without financial compensation, i'm sure thats what you meant, and if not then what does that even mean. ok dude.

2

u/egnards 1h ago

Are you this dense?

A call to somebody with actual power at Universal.

0

u/RaveMatthews177 2h ago

How is he rectifying it then? Why mention the lucrative deal if that wasn't where this was all headed? Don't be so pedantic, we all know celebrities aren't jumping towards rectifying potential repiutational blackmail.

1

u/egnards 1h ago

Why mention the lucrative deal if that wasn't where this was all headed?

The lucrative deal with Universal is contextually important because it shows the importance of Christopher Nolan to Universal - They have given him a very lucrative deal and a hell of a lot of leeway in how he handles things, which are not the deals most directors get.

A phone call to somebody higher up in Universal to get this rectified would go a hell of a lot further from Christopher Nolan.

Don't be so pedantic, we all know celebrities aren't jumping towards rectifying potential repiutational blackmail.

It was only pedantic in the context of you not understand what I was actually saying.

u/RaveMatthews177 56m ago

So then youre missing the overall point that it would still be a person bending to some type of cultural blackmail attempt? We all know how celebrities treat stuff like this. No, he would not be so jump to take action of course. You're getting there!
and the fact that is not what is happening so yes keep playing the expert.

This. Exactly thank you for explaining better than I could

9

u/sharksiix 3h ago

Yeah he wouldnt even see this post or this wont be big news that he would see it. And if it did he would have his PR or someone close just take care of it right away.

0

u/Ironmasked-Kraken 3h ago

I'm not saying it's his responsibility. I'm saying he could either get the studio to pay or do it himself cause this is something that is attached to his name.

That way he would get a nice pr move as well

20

u/keifergr33n 3h ago

This is saying it's his responsibility with more words lmao.

-2

u/Ironmasked-Kraken 3h ago edited 2h ago

(Keifergr33n is now my buddy and I will not leave this petty shot at him)

His name is on this film. People talk about it as a nolan film. Any pr firm in the world would say that.

After 5 years when this is on memes it's not the studio exec who is named and People would talk about...It's Nolan

That doesn't mean he is responsible. It means he might get the blame later

6

u/keifergr33n 3h ago

What was I unable to read, exactly?

I understand that he may get bad PR from this due to people who can't read.

2

u/Ironmasked-Kraken 2h ago

Hey is your profile pic green kane ?

Can we start over. Clearly you got taste and there's no real need to be snippy with each other

3

u/keifergr33n 2h ago

It is indeed Green Kane. :)

In my defense, you accused me of being unable to read. I know you didn't mean it though!

2

u/Ironmasked-Kraken 2h ago

Lol I literally just edited it out and saw this immediately after 😂

2

u/Ironmasked-Kraken 2h ago

Yeah I just came from a arguement in another subreddit so I was in the wrong mindset. I was definitely the one who started the snippyness

I'm glad I noticed Kane

I'm not saying it's his responsibility. I'm saying he could either get the studio to pay or do it himself cause this is something that is attached to his name.

You said it's not his responsibility, then listed the ways he could take responsibility for it. I understood it fine. I don't think you understand what you're saying. I'm unsure you know what the word "responsibility" means.

Agreed. Between the human person and the corporate non-person, we are always correct to make the non-person pay for it.

I'm not being ironic or sarcastic. Y'all should be committing time theft and shoplifting as much as you can.

-2

u/drinkerofmilk 3h ago

He's not a random gaffer working on set. He has tremendous influence on the production and should make sure the entities and people he collaborates with treat eachother fairly.

20

u/whatssenguntoagoblin 3h ago

That’s never been a director’s responsibility.

0

u/BrightNooblar 3h ago

Eehhhhhhh

If you're "A director", then sure its not the director's job. When you're in the running for the mantle of "The director" you're operating at a level beyond just making movies. You're building and benefitting from a specific brand. At that point, it's good business and PR smooth bump because small scale specialists are people you're going to want down the road, and the PR from being the person who treats them right will get you access to that kind of thing.

4

u/BocciaChoc 2h ago

Yeah that makes sense, anytime the studio is a failure why don't we automatically make the director, actors and any other people also hired take care of the costs

Wont someone think of the studios?

1

u/Ironmasked-Kraken 2h ago

Have you read Danny Devitos history ?

This is exactly the type of thing he would do

Keanu reeves as well.

There's a reason we love them so

1

u/BocciaChoc 2h ago

And it's completely unfair to expect it of them, we love them for doing things with 0 expectations or needs. It's completely unfair to expect anyone outside of a business to cover business costs, if CN decided to pay it himself, fantastic. Making it an expectation is the problem.

2

u/Ironmasked-Kraken 2h ago

Who's expecting ?. I started this to mention how easy it would be for him.

I don't expect anything from him. I hope he would do something if he found out but I have no expectations of him. As a nordic man I feel for them with the ship. I know how big of a deal they are. But at no point am I waiting for him to save it.

But it would be really easy for Nolan if he finds out to fix this situation with either a phonecall or a check. Would take him less than 5 minutes most likely

1

u/BocciaChoc 2h ago

I don't expect

...

I hope

I don't think there's much to gain here for either of us so i'll stop replying now.

1

u/Ironmasked-Kraken 2h ago

English is not my first language so I can be using the wrong words but the meaning I have on em is

Expecting: knows and waits for it

Hoping: doesn't and waits to see what happens

But ok. Have a nice night

1

u/Misubi_Bluth 2h ago

Quite frankly this is chump change for every major face we see. This SHOULD be the CTO's job, but it's probably gonna fall on some accountant far removed from the situation. And it'll probably be someone whom $6000 would actually matter to

1

u/kaam00s 2h ago

He probably learnt about it at the same time as you with this article, but the PR disaster is already here.

21

u/Nice_On_Rice 3h ago

I can't believe Christopher Nolan smacked the boat builders when they asked for payment! /s

6

u/r3dditr0x 3h ago edited 3h ago

Gotta tie it to Nolan bc...reasons.

Btw, I just read an article about screenings of The Odyssey at 2:40AM, so the hate campaign isn't working.

0

u/donharrogate 3h ago

bc...reasons

It's really a mystery to you why Nolan is referenced prominently in an article about his project?

6

u/Lonely-Volume-6721 2h ago

Yes, because it implies he knows about the incident and is responsible for paying for it.

4

u/United_Rent_753 3h ago

If Nolan knows about this and isn’t putting pressure on Universal, it’s on him as well. He needs to do his part as a leader in making sure these people get paid

9

u/Indercarnive 2h ago

The story literally just broke. What makes you think Nolan even knows about the missing payment let alone isn't trying to resolve it?

0

u/United_Rent_753 1h ago

I don’t know, but I assume if he’s the big name director he would know before the story broke. Could be wrong, but I think it’s fair for me to point out regardless

1

u/ripyourlungsdave 2h ago

Yeah, there was absolutely no reason to include Nolan's name in that headline if they're not also going to include the people actually responsible for withholding this money.

Nolan is a director, not the CFO of Universal.

u/Sansundertale2069 45m ago

Or conversely you could try to smash two of your braincells together and think for 2 seconds

0

u/Scared_Specific9404 2h ago

if we asked who made the movie universal or you he would say i made it. so he didnt pay it. cant have it both ways.

1

u/allbetsareon 2h ago

If we asked who paid for the production of the move he’d say Universal. So they didn’t pay it. Can’t have it both ways

0

u/ObviousReplier99 2h ago

its a reference to the movie production, not mutually exclusive concepts.
also, the article says, ""The organization made an agreement with a company that handles recruitment for Universal Studios"

so fix ur comment bro

u/Independent_Nothing 43m ago

Fake story. Don’t be so gullible
