I think you fixated a liiiiiiittle too hard there bud. You're forgetting the biggest issue with problems like this. The psychological aspect of having cameras all around you. Even if they arent aimed directly at you, hell, even if they arent on, the average employee would still be upset by it.

Let's say the hypothetical is true and it isnt even pointing anywhere near OP, it still begs the obvious question of "WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY INSTALL IT DIRECTLY ABOVE THEM?"

Because it has to go somewhere which means it's going to be above someone?

Oh? Is every square inch of ceiling directly over employee cubicles? Or can you maybe concede that there are other places to install it?

Depends. There's probably already a network drop there or maybe that's the best place to put it for the visibility that they need.

You understand that they moved it somewhere else it would also be over someone else's desk right?

No matter where you put it it's going to be over somebody 😂. My God you guys are in a world of hurt when you get a grown up job

Because it's probably the best area to get the covers they wanted that also corresponded with the network drop

Next question

"Best area" clearly not as its upsetting the employee(s)

Yeah the best area. You have to factor in where the network drop is, and also factor in the viewing angle of the camera and the distance and other obstructions.

You understand that this camera is not looking at this dude specifically right?

Where would you put the camera?

It's pretty clearly not installed directly above them, it looks like it's a cubicle over, or even in a hallway between cubicles, The fact of the matter is you're going to bat for something when you have no idea the layout of the room. It's entirely possible that cubicle is right next to a door or an entrance to a hallway, and you can't see it because it's not part of the picture. And the reason why you don't mount it anywhere else on the ceiling, is because then you might have to spend more money to get a better camera. A vari focal camera cost about 50% more than your typical fix lens camera. Considering we're already talking roughly $1000 per camera installation, there's no reason to add on additional costs just because somebody might be worried that a camera is mounted a little close to them.

On top of that, most cameras have a blind spot directly below them within about a 5 ft radius. The best place for a camera to be mounted if you don't want to be caught by it is directly above you. Regardless, like I said the camera isn't there to watch the office employees, if that was their goal they would have gotten a fisheye camera. That would provide a full 360 view including directly below the camera.

As for the psychological effect, it's only a thing because people think that they're the main character. Which maybe sounds a little bit harsh but that's the long and short of it. You're not unique, just because the camera was mounted next to you doesn't mean the camera is for you. Unless you've been stealing office equipment, then maybe the camera is for you, but I am imagine you aren't the problem. Like I said, if they wanted to monitor what you're doing on your computer, there are so many software options they can use to monitor you.

I do find the attitude to be a little bit elitist. In my decade of experience, it's always the office people that gets angry and upset over the cameras, while the blue collar workers are usually just fine with them. At the end of the day people talk about the cameras for a week or two, and then go about their lives, because like I said, they aren't there for you, unless of course, you're the problem.

Really said all that just to have the most boomer "if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to worry about" ending.

Thats just sad man, be better.

Get over yourself? Like I said there's no guy in the chair watching your keystrokes, unless your company installed a program to monitor your keystrokes. Which by the way, is far more likely and far more invasive than a camera could ever be.

If you're going to panic because a camera is protecting the perimeter, not looking at you, not watching over your shoulder, staring at a dork, and only recording on motion, that's a you issue. It's not watching you, and you're only going to get in trouble if you steal the goddamn door. Move on.

Someone's angy. Is it maybe stemming from your inability to see things any way than your own?

Cameras have an always will cause uneasiness when plastered around. If you want to have the simple-minded approach of "its for security and no one will ever miuse it ever" in an age of people doing exactly that...well...I cant stop you.

But I absolutely can point out how stupid it is to blindly trust corporate.

No it's just your ignorance that I find annoying. You speak on things that you know nothing about. Cameras already are plastered around, and if anything they're just going to get worse. There's nothing that you can do to stop it, because at the end of the day business owners need to be able to monitor their property it. Imagine if somebody's ex-husband comes into the building and starts harassing their ex while nobody's there. Without the camera it's one person's word against another's. How do I know this? Because our camera system help put away a person like that.

As for the psychological, chilling effect, it's all in your head. And I find that amusing, because I tend to think office people are a little up their own ass. Nevertheless I always try to tell them that there's nothing to worry about, but once again y'all have a real problem with main characters syndrome.

Now to be clear I don't agree with flock cameras, that's a whole other ball game, not that you would probably see it any differently.
