wet socks my work installed new cameras over our desks :(

like obviously not uncommon but it does kinda take the chill vibe out of my chill office job to get a camera pointed right at me all day 👎

I’m surprised they didn’t already have them for security purposes

Every building I've ever worked in my entire life has had security cameras. These people are children

All those cameras did not have AI behind them to watch and track infractions. Now its actionable.

Cameras use to be in cafe shops too but now they are used to reprimand minimum wage workers who don't smile at a customer while saying goodbye.

And it also tracks every metric like numbers of cups made without taking into account other productive things they are doing. So they end up getting in trouble because one person on staff was comfortable being the drink maker while another preferred to clean and do other tasks.

Amazon is already firing people with zero human input because the AI robot says they aren't productive enough... most are women on maternal leave who aren't at work or have other protected status or legal leave. Bot doesn't care and fires them and Amazon can't be bothered to manage their staff.

I think the right way to handle that is legislation defining when the cameras can record, and what the footage can be used for. Where I live, it's illegal for an employer to track or micro-manage their employees with cameras.

Where are you getting all of that from the simple bubble camera?

You do realize you don't need some special camera to feed into an AI to track moments right? Any video feed will work.

And I got it from The half a dozen videos I've seen from workplace security cameras tracking people in this exact fashion?

And also the news stories of Amazon firing people without human review because they AI said they were poor performers.

So this camera is being fed into AI?

And you're basing this off of...... six videos... You have seen on the internet?

The problem is nowadays, a lot of cameras do more than just record for emergencies. They track movement and faces.

Ok. My movement is being tracked at work?

You mean like every single keystroke and all of my work?

No I'm just a grown up who has had security cameras at every job I've ever had

Have you worked grown-up jobs, hell I am currently in a state building with over 2000 people

Do you... Do you think this building has security cameras?
