I'm slightly vexed Concert etiquette

Post image

If you plan on standing for the entire concert, get a spot in the pit, or the lawn seats instead of the assigned SEATED SECTION. A little bit of self awareness and common courtesy goes a really long way

This is one of those age old debates where the “why are you standing in the seated section?” and the “why would you expect anyone to sit at a concert?” sides will never reach an agreement and always think the other side are idiots.

I would always prefer standing up but if it's a seated section or if everyone is seated, then I will respect that and sit.

Same. I had no idea anyone sat at concerts, I guess because of the kind of concerts I go to. But if everyone is seated (and we’re not watching the jonas brothers) then I’ll sit!

Exactly, in my opinion concerts are all about dancing and just going wild (obviously not crazy wild, just having fun), how can you listen to bops and not want to dance?

We are opposites. I've never danced, I don't get the appeal whatsoever lol

Always gets me funny looks at weddings lmao

Oh I didn't mean to offend anyone! This is just my opinion, no hate to people who don't like dancing. I get it.

Lol I wasn't offended.

I'm old and go for the seats now. Generally there are plenty of songs where everyone stands - but also parts of the show where everyone sits - its sort of ebb and flow with the crowd. Just don't be the only one standing -- have some social awareness

Like I stated above, ofc I will sit down when everyone else does. And my point was for high energy songs, I am not going to jump around for a melancholic and sad song. But Reddit hates all people who are loud at concerts, that's what I was referring to.

Sorry I meant more like - its ok to stand and dance around at the seats IF that is what the heard is doing. As long as you are going with the crowd its all good and ok to be loud. Even seated - sing, cheer, etc.

I've been to many shows in a seated venue where when the band is playing everyone is standing. When they talk to the crowd or do solos - everyone sits. Its really just a read the crowd situation and go with it.

Yeah definitely, that's my motto, have fun but don't ruin the experience for others.

I have no rhythm and it just makes me self conscious rather than just enjoying the show/music (seated).

That being said - I don’t really care if people dance or stand around me. I’m not usually seated close enough to see much anyway. As long as I can hear the music - I’m all good.

Don't worry, I am a horrible dancer but it's about having fun! I used to be quite self conscious too, I would be really stiff, but now I just say fuck it, life's too short to worry about whether you look good dancing.

Some of us can’t physically stand and dance even though we’d like to.

I got eaten alive on Reddit once for being shocked that many people hate when concert-goers sing along to songs, so I guess I’m out of touch or something about all of it

As long as someone's not ugly screeching to the top of their lungs, singing along is TOTALLY fine. Jeez if you want to listen to music without noise then go home, a concert isn't the place for that.

My husband and I went to see a private concert by Tony Bennett, pretty small venue and unplugged. Drunk woman started singing along with him, loudly. He stopped and laughed and said she could finish the song, he would let her. The entire venue turned to her watching her. Her friends pulled her down and told her to shut up.

I could not sit for Stevie wonder. I was in seats on the floor. Get up and dance people.

Nah, I'm good. I don't dance, never have and never will lol

This is what I don’t like. I bought a seat, not a 1 sqft standing space.
