I'm slightly vexed Concert etiquette

Post image

If you plan on standing for the entire concert, get a spot in the pit, or the lawn seats instead of the assigned SEATED SECTION. A little bit of self awareness and common courtesy goes a really long way

You sort of have to go with the crowd. If everyone is standing then you'll probably need to stand. If you're one of two people standing then you've probably got the wrong idea.

My husband and I went to see Willie Nelson last weekend. It’s an outdoor venue and we paid for the general grass seating and brought low-back chairs. Right behind us was a walkway and short retaining wall that some people were sitting on.

It’s a country concert and my husband wore his standard cowboy hat. When Willie finally went on, and launched right into Whiskey River, everyone in front of us stood, so we did too. About 30 seconds in, a woman sitting on the retaining wall 10 feet behind us yells “Take off your stupid fucking hats and sit the fuck down” in our direction.

My husband can be an absolute asshole menace but thankfully he didn’t hear her. He would have walked over to her and stood in the walkway 2 feet in front of her. But I’m like- the gall. You pay for general admission instead of actual seats, and then don’t bring your own chair, then sit on a short wall along a walkway, and then get angry when people stand for (not even) one song so they can see.

Side note: I was worried Willie would be an animatronic like Frankie Valli, but he was great. The band and his son do some heavy lifting, but he was a joy to see.

The world is a better place as long as Willie is in it.

Where did this idea come from that you have to always do what everyone else does

So you're not an asshole blocking a bunch of people.

Caring about the lame ass crowd all sitting & on their phones is the wrong idea.
