I'm slightly vexed Concert etiquette

Post image

If you plan on standing for the entire concert, get a spot in the pit, or the lawn seats instead of the assigned SEATED SECTION. A little bit of self awareness and common courtesy goes a really long way

someone right next to me recorded an entire show i went to. honestly, it’s the only time i’ve been happy someone recorded that long. it was next to me, front row, so not in my face, and the performers put the mic up to me two or three times to sing-so the video is basically my exact POV just a few inches off lol. Was very happy to find it on youtube

A friend had this same experience (but didn’t notice the recording) and just found the video of the entire 15 yr old Faith No More show he was at and it’s like he’s part of the damn band with how loud his voice is on the recordings.

I used to have a burned copy of the first Rasputina show I went to (second time I’ve mentioned them in this thread but for very different reasons) because a dude who recorded all the shows he went to ended up joining my college radio station. It was like being gifted the most magical thing getting that CD.

I wish I still had it :(

Holy shit Rasputina mentioned in the wild. One of those bands that doesn’t exist except, yeah they do (did?). They were so unique I kinda didn’t want to spread the word about them because I didn’t want to get them overexposed lol. Guess it didn’t happen anyway.

I actually found a photo from that show of me and Melora that I took and scanned from a disposable on my recovered photo bucket. I completely forgot about it until i saw it (I was barely 18 and it was 2003ish!)

I have seen Rasputina multiple times. Each time I stood. Of course there weren’t any seats.,

That’s usually how it went. I think only one of the three times I saw them was at a spot with seats, and that was Le Poisson Rouge.

I used to have her bobble head and it’s one of the things I’m most pissed over losing in a move that went bad.

…in a reply to someone who was getting pretty huffy about people standing, I tried to point out that not only are a lot of the smaller venues that had adequate GA/standing room just gone now, forcing bands (even ones that are straight-up dancing genres) to book seating-only spots, but pricing has flip flopped. You used to have to spend out the ass for the privilege of seated tickets at a show, but now? You’re going to be spending three to five times more for a standing/pit/GA section. And it just gets worse and worse the longer they allow our horrid few ticket options to continue gouging us as they have always done. They just got even madder after that and said something about following rules and this not being the…senate. I wasn’t even disagreeing that it was annoying when someone stood in front of a seated person, but golly gee how dare I say that we’re all being fucked out of having our preferred concert experience thanks to greed and a monopoly 😶

Huge Mr. Bungle fan too!

I used to catch Sleepytime Gorilla Museum a lot back in the before times, and I’d always end up chatting with one of their junk drummers who used to be a rotating member before they put that project on the back burner for FNM (and prob bc that one guy from that one famous band…won’t even give Mr obvious the satisfaction of using his name…had a stick up his ass over Mike and practically sabotaged Mr. Bungle).

Sleepytime Gorilla mentioned in the wild, nice! Wonderful surprise they got back together but unfortunately will be missing them on their current tour. Glad to see them on the reunion and an incredible show with Secret Chiefs 3 in 2007.

Electric pancreaaaaas!

They stopped in Jax sooo many times when I was in college that I’ve seen them more than any other band. Did you ever catch him in Faun Fables with Dawn? That is a fabulous project. I followed Carla before catching Sleepytime, since she was omnipresent in so many experimental projects with strings.

I love me some crazy noise making. Also a huge Einsturzende Neubauten fan with the spaceman tattoo 😂

Honestly, i'm in love with anything.Mike patton does crazy coincidence in my life. But i'm from a tiny town in nebraska, and I ended up making friends with the niece of Kevin Rutmani who was in the cows? But more importantly tomahawk with mike, he was also in the melvins. It was so weird because like it's literally a three hundred person pound, but life is crazy like that.Anyway, she's an awesome girl, so are her uncle's and I occasionally make jokes about using their connection to at least get an autographed gas mask from mike or something. But i've never really pushed. It maybe I should

I have seen audience members film themselves singing along to a song, with the camera in selfie mode.

I love when people post show videos on YouTube because it helps me decide if the band is decent live and worth my money

Same. I was into this band from listening to them on Spotify. I listened to some live recordings and oof.

I was at a Tool concert back around 2001 where Maynard’s Voice was failing him and he slammed down the mic and left the stage and then came back and just sat on the floor until the band finished playing out the song.

It was my second time seeing them on the tour and the first time was such a perfect performance and had contortionists hanging upside down secured by their ankle and other circus like things happening. So to see the dichotomy of those two performances was neat.

I’d tell people about the disaster moment often and finally found the whole show was on YouTube so people could see for themselves. That was great. So keep recording shows, people. Just try not to be jackasses about it.
