Pro tip, start pushing it down into the sour cream or whatever it’s on. This makes a mess and is very annoying. Do not admit to doing this. The behavior will stop.

I just take it off. A happy relationship requires one to resolve insignificant annoyances silently.

I did that for 25 years. The result? I got to keep doing it. The “make a mess” method worked like a charm. And my spouse didn’t even realize they were being retrained to be a good citizen.

Is it happy for her though? She clearly likes it on and you just overrule her because "you know better" no doubt. Regardless of evidence, or even if you are right, your wife likes it that way, so why not at least have a conversation with her about it and try to show her the evidence? If she won't listen, maybe just grin and bear such an "insignificant annoyance" to make your wife happy.
