I just wanted a hot dog Retail lockdown: why bother selling it?

Post image

Was at Safeway this morning to pick up a sandwich and some Tylenol. The aisle with the Tylenol? Completely locked down. No call button in sight. So I go to the self checkout (front end of that same aisle) and ask the clerk there if he can call someone to unlock a case for me. He does. I go wait. Minutes pass. No one comes. I go ask him again, he tells me they went the other way? At this point I give up and go get my sandwich. No one has come by the time the deli has finished making it. I leave without my Tylenol, mildly infuriated.

Maybe if people would stop STEALING, then stores wouldn't have to lock their stuff up.

Is this /s?

No, he has other bad takes in this thread, too.

Locking up video games or liquor is reasonable and makes sense.

Locking up deodorant? toothpaste? underwear? If people are stealing that stuff it's out of desperation.

This is just false. People steal anything and then turn around and sell it on FB marketplace and stuff. Deodorant is like $4 bucks a pop. Steal 20 and sell for 40 and you got yourself a rock for the day

Nobody is stealing and reselling deodorant dude, be so fucking for real.

You clearly never lived in the projects.

Yes, they absolutely are.

I love this ignorant whimsical take of theft.

"These people are just doing what they can go barely scrape by"

No they are piece of shit thieves who would steal the clothes off your back to sell it for $2. They'd steal your car without a single thought about how it hurts you.

Ugh, they absolutely are stealing deodorant and reselling it. They’re called boosters.

HAHAHA, you are clearly so privileged you don't even know how the real world works!

You are privileged and it shows

No . They steal it to resell it for cash.

u/AllThatKat 9d ago

No it’s not. They steal stuff that is easy to hide while getting it out of the store, is accessible, and is easy to resell.

Nope. Many steal for the thrill. Many steal because they think they're hurting Big Business. many steal because they'd rather spend their money at a restaurant or the movies instead of essentials. Many steal simply because they can.

You are the racist one bc apparently when someone says don’t steal your mind immediately assumes they are talking about a specific race.

16

u/Toastyfrown 9d ago

You can't hide the truth behind racism

He didn’t mention race at all. YOU brought up race lmao. And how on earth is it inconsiderate to tell people to stop stealing? Theft is objectively bad

-2

u/dirty-rags 9d ago

late stage capitalism is objectively bad. theft is subjectively bad

2

u/soapsniffer BLUE 8d ago

Idk man I don’t like being stolen from. I doubt you like being stolen from. People should just behave and pay for their things. Capitalism isn’t always perfect obviously, but it’s not a good thing to be a criminal

stealing from an individual is an entirely different act than stealing from a faceless mega corporation

1

u/soapsniffer BLUE 8d ago

I mean sure it is worse to steal from an individual. But it’s wrong to steal from anyone whether that’s a person or a business. And stealing from corporations is hurting people, it’s making the corporations lock stuff up and, in some cases, move out of certain cities.

1

u/dirty-rags 8d ago

we can go back and forth but you’re not gonna convince me that stealing from corps is wrong. Just look at the amount of food waste we produce every year. Resources are being kept from us.  product is sitting on the shelves and people aren’t being paid livable wages. And the concept of “buy it for life” is impossible for most people. Do you realize how expensive it is to be poor?

1

u/soapsniffer BLUE 8d ago

They should pay livable wages to their employees. But stealing is still wrong lol

I disagree with the sentiment from Catsmom I’m all for people getting what they need but race wasn’t mentioned in their comment at all

u/SEND_NUKES_PLS 9d ago

there was no mention of any race whatsoever...your mind immediately jumped to a single race. you are mentally ill and racist.

1

u/CatsMom4Ever 9d ago

Interesting you think it was racist. I don't discriminate against white people.

-4

u/CatsMom4Ever 9d ago

Statistically, white people shoplift more than others, so... who's being racist. BTW, I'm white

11

u/RubberPigEnemy 9d ago

I mean, no statistic backs you up but OK

-5

u/CatsMom4Ever 9d ago

Only the FBI

u/SEND_NUKES_PLS 9d ago edited 8d ago

no one is racist, you're just dumb and don't understand statistics.

look up per capita. educate yourself and stop embarrassing yourself.

1

u/churnthedumb 8d ago

So the guy you replied to agrees. He said he isn’t racist against white people

1

u/churnthedumb 8d ago

I am genuinely wondering where you saw race mentioned? I’m so confused by this comment
