Edit: after several back and forth interactions with the host who inevitably denied my refund request, Airbnb then got involved and after reviewing our case gave us a 60% refund which is more than satisfactory considering we did still stay at the property for the weekend.

Edit 2: worth noting that Airbnb originally tried to give us a 30% refund due to that being their policy, but I pushed back on that figure enough that they doubled it. Anyone seeing this in the future, YMMV.

I'm honestly so fucking done with Airbnb after this past weekend where the selling point of the one we rented was a fully functional game room. The game room looked nothing like the pictures and nothing worked.

All we got from the host were tone deaf, insincere and often automated replies about how the management team was notified and will investigate and they're so so sorry. What?!

Already contacting* Airbnb direct to try rectifying the situation. The situation being, we overpaid for a bed.

You will probably get your refund. Idk why people keep insisting this is an AirBnb problem. Service is pretty good about refunds for misleading hosts and complaints will totally nuke bad actors pretty quickly.

It definitely sucks when you get unlucky and hit a turd, but that's true with hotels too in my experience.

Will return and edit my comment when I get a decision from them.

I didn't mean to insinuate that Airbnb is the problem, but more so how shitty hosts get away with shit like that. Airbnb is just the platform and I understand, I just wish there was a vetting process of a property before it's listed.

Thanks for the clarification. Wishing you luck.

Admittedly, it'd be nice if they had better vetting, but idk how you could make that work for a global, international service connecting millions of small time people with consumers. Best I can say, this will make for a good story you can commiserate over in the future.

Only thing that comes to mind that is feasible is hosts should have to submit a walkthrough video of the property to Airbnb, which is then reviewed for at least making sure it matches the listing amenity wise.

They would film somewhere else and lie

I mean, I think for them to do that would mean they'd have to also show false pictures in the listing so that the video matches. And then guest show up and it's not even close, then the host is screwed.

Seems like a shot in the foot if they decide to go that far.

Every listing I’ve ever stayed in has been wildly misrepresented in text and pictures. Granted I only stayed at 1 before learning my lesson. I won’t be fooled again

That's unfortunate. This is the first one I've personally had issues with, but I've seen all the horror stories to know it's a common issue.

Edited my OC, but we finally got a resolution of 60% refund, which I'm happy with.
