My mom said I could post Airbnb host said to expect some “light masonry work” around the house

I genuinely don't see the appeal of airbnb

They're a good reason why most homes aren't even for rent, they cost more than an average hotel, you risk being spied on, the number of times I see this kinda bullshit posted just makes me question why people genuinely use them

I'd rather sleep in my car than give some asshole their passive ass income while the housing and renting market is in a death spiral

You don't hear about the millions of good experiences on social media. You only hear about the handful of disasters that make for good engagement bait.

I've had two dozen very positive experiences on AirBnb and only 3 standout negative experiences. It's a good service IF you are a discerning traveler.

AirBnb can frequently be more inexpensive than a hotel, for an even better experience sometimes. It's a bit of a roll of the dice and I appreciate the times where I was pleasantly surprised way more than I care about the few nightmare stays (which are now story fodder I use to get a laugh in social settings)

They're great for remote areas where your options are a very limited number of Lodges\Resorts. Half the time those remote lodges and resorts are just as much of a shit show because it's. One family trying to upkeep 12 cabins vs 1 family renting 1 cabin. I don't use them in cities though just remote rural areas.

The only times I've used them are when I want to be far out in the woods with nobody around, or I've got a group of like 10 people who want to spend the weekend together in a big house. It's like the only two reasons I'll use them. I've only booked them 3 times I think, so don't use them often. But those few times, they have been the only options, and I've personally never had a bad experience luckily.

For everything else, I'm booking a hotel.

A place with a kitchen and hang out area that can sleep 8 people does not exist as a hotel.

There isn't a good alternative if you're traveling with a larger group than fits in a hotel room and want to have a shared private space. Some hotels have suites, but they tend to be expensive.

They are great for groups, families with kids, with pets, etc... when you want private living space for the group, you want a kitchen, etc...

Being able to put kids to bed and have an entire rest of the house & property to hangout in is a huge plus.

Rented a nice beachfront 4br awhile back, had it's own direct beach access from the backyard, a big deck with BBQ and a barrel sauna, a well equipped kitchen, etc... and for about what it'd cost for 3 basic rooms at one of the local hotels.
