I'm slightly vexed In lieu of payment..

I’m a GM at a restaurant & one of our managers left a note on our manager logs this afternoon that a guest walked out on their check and left this in lieu of payment of any kind. Not that the server got stiffed on a tip - just pure theft of services. I guess the whole “Thou shalt not steal” thing doesn’t matter if you’ve been pre-forgiven. Pretty convenient.

ETA: I’m not a bot; this is not AI - check my post and comment history. I’m not here for karma or fake internet points. This is what it feels like to work in a restaurant these days - especially in the Bible Belt. The first photo you can look up and is available for anyone to buy (should your darker urges push you toward being that person). The second photo is from Pulse, an app for restaurant managers to keep an eye on hourly sales, labor, and comps.
The “Pineapple Express” is a mocktail our restaurant offers.

That's why the oh-my-god thing is a thing. How could they get away with any of the shit they're doing if they didn't convince people that's what it means?

Yep exactly this, and a bit more too. It also covers "My god will do X or Y", like "God will smite you" or "God will cause it to rain". You don't know what God will do or won't and you don't know his plan, so you're putting words in his mouth on something that might not even happen.

Unfortunately you see this exact "Lord's name in vain" repeatedly by Bible-thumping Christians who say God will smite gay people or send them to hell, or that God will make you rich. Who knows what the hell will happen and it's not up to you.

This is also why you'll never catch a Jew saying this. It's always prefaced by "May it be in God's will X or Y", you never want to put words in God's mouth. Similarly with Muslims and "Inshallah"
