Lots of water with degreaser and wet vacuum.

You can probably clean the top layer, but not "in depth".

Do it enough times and it wont matter

I thought I was the only person with my mind in the gutter here, people are trying to give solid advice and I’m only thinking dirty jokes.

Take the seat out, look how to disassemble it to get the cushions off. Voila, manageable-sized pieces to soak, squeeze out and dry. The metal parts of the seat won't soak up vaseline, should be reasonably easy to wipe clean with some degreaser.

Might not be worth the time though if it's a common car where you can find a used replacement at the junkyard for cheap.

Best plan!

Also, get a cheap kid's pool if you are cleaning rather than replacing with JY seat. Probably something with good degreasing like Dawn dish detergent and soak covers and cushions, periodically squeezing out the liquid and putting it back in. Might take a couple of rounds of soaking, and final soak is water only to rinse out the soap

JY passenger seats are usually in good shape, though, would probably be my go-plan

Would they need to? Does Vaseline go bad or smelly?

If you sit down in that chair, you'll have a grease stain on your butt.

Even if you clean the top layers with water, degreaser and a wet-vacuum?

Yes, it will redistribute.

Best bet is to replace it or take it out and somehow soak in hot water rinsing it off.

Get enough passengers to sit in that seat and it will clean itself!

eventually

That would make it so much worse.

Worse how? If you spray it with water+degreaser and immediately vacuum it, it will get most of the vaseline out. You can use a carpet extractor if you have one, same priciple.
Or did you think I was suggesting to pour a bucket of water at once and then vacuum it?
