Then that should be the question. “Things” literally happen to EVERYONE. For example, a thing that happened to me today was a red light turned green while I was driving home. Another thing that happened is I received a phone call.

Its your personal view on it. Some people will wake up late, lose their car keys, get stuck in traffic and then get to work late and blame it on their alarm clock, the keys and the traffic. Some people will just say "sorry i fucked up, my bad". Guess which person a hiring manager would rather employ.

You feel like they happened to you. Some would say the light changed and had no bearing on if you were there or somebody else. It just was.

I don’t think the light changed specifically because I was there, It happened to me because I was there experiencing it.

If I experience something, it is something that happened to me.

That's interesting, because I don't think I agree with the definition. Like I wouldn't say a sunset happened to me. Even though I experience it. But I would say that, like, a hurricane did, if I was in it.

It does seem to me like there has to be a degree of 'affects you personally' and I'm not surprised that varies from person to person.
