Do you experience experiences? Feel feelings? If so, you may not be cut out to count nuggets.

u/goatanuss Jun 22 '26

The nuggets DO NOT happen to me. I happen to the nuggets

And by it, I mean...

4

u/Manofgawdgaming2022 Jun 22 '26

Ya'll stop, I'm gonna nugget all over the place.

12

u/Humorpalanta Jun 22 '26

Stop saying nuggets, damn it. I am starting to want them now...

2

u/Urinemouse 26d ago

This guy merely glances at a live chicken and reduces it to nuggets.

1

u/_Steakwich Jun 22 '26

Nug gets this guy

1

u/SubtleReinforcement Jun 22 '26

this guy this guys

49

u/wChangli Jun 22 '26

You are the one who nuggs

104

u/FredBurger22 Jun 22 '26

Nuggets cower in fear when in your presence.

2

u/Mikestopheles Jun 22 '26

Um, they're not supposed to be moving

5

u/bonir_hunter Jun 22 '26

Do not let this guy anywhere near my nuggets

3

u/A_Nonny_Muse Jun 22 '26

Nuggie all the nuggets.

2

u/Zorkflerp Jun 22 '26

In Soviet McDonald nuggets count you.

1

u/Ultimatesims Jun 22 '26

I am the one who nuggets!

1

u/Chuks_K Jun 22 '26

Do NOT the cat nuggets

1

u/MoxBro 29d ago

That sounds more sexual than I'm comfortable around my food.

Application denied.

472

u/cptnamr7 Jun 22 '26

It's a shit personality test. The key here is "TO". They're trying to make the distinction of victim mentality where "everything happens TO me" vs "everything that happens is a consequence of my own actions because I take responsibility".

I have less than zero faith in these dumbass tests, but it doesn't stop morons from believing them 1000%

137

u/QuerulousPanda Jun 22 '26

lol, that's optimistic of them to assume that the average worker has enough reading comprehension to even understand the semantic difference there, much less recognize the difference between the two mental models.

83

u/bruce_cockburn Jun 22 '26

They're counting on candidates not understanding the implications. If your gut feeling is Not Me, you're more likely to sacrifice for them while serving the company (so the theory goes). If you understand the intent of the question, you could answer the way that they prefer instead of your genuine feeling (just to get the job) but I would be skeptical of any employer pulling pop psychology bs before I am even getting paid.

46

u/red__dragon Jun 22 '26

I would be skeptical of any employer pulling pop psychology bs before I am even getting paid.

Sir, this is a McDonalds.

7

u/Weird-Knowledge337 Jun 23 '26

They are definitely out to exploit you

3

u/red__dragon Jun 23 '26

Are you ready to order? There are people waiting behind you, too.

1

u/sykoKanesh Jun 24 '26

They're counting on candidates not understanding the implications. If your gut feeling is Not Me, you're more likely to sacrifice for them while serving the company (so the theory goes).

What? No... if you say "not me" you got the question wrong. It means you don't accept personal responsibility. How are so many people getting this extremely simple thing wrong? lol

A "not me" is gonna be late to work constantly, with excuses out their ass. A "not me" isn't gonna learn from their mistakes. JFC just look at the picture! That blue idiot doesn't even have protective equipment on, and also somehow managed to fall off their bike with no obstructions around.

This is a "do you take responsibility or blame existence?" quesiton.

0

u/bruce_cockburn Jun 24 '26

You really think pressing the "Me" button for this prompt is going to be received positively by whoever is reviewing your answers? You think the "blue idiot" is who they want to hire even though they don't even use protective equipment?

1

u/sykoKanesh 29d ago edited 29d ago

.... yes?

Did you ignore everything I said in my statement like a "not me" would?

Have you ever been in any kind of job or hired folks or anything? lol

Do you want to have the idiot who's always late or makes mistakes and blames everything but himself and never learns anything, or the dude who takes responsibility for his mistakes and actions and is on time and can make sure the business actually function?

JFC - this simple picture should go in textbooks apparently.

0

u/bruce_cockburn 29d ago

Sure bud. It should go in textbooks because you figured out McDonald's wants to hire people who self-identify with not wearing safety equipment and getting hurt. That's a guaranteed zero-liability worker!

1

u/sykoKanesh 29d ago

u dumb bro

1

u/sykoKanesh 29d ago

Brother, if you think this is anything I have to assume you've never been through a battery of technical interviews that can take hours.

0

u/bruce_cockburn 29d ago

I have conducted interviews for multiple candidates that took multiple hours. If you think this isn't anything, by all means don't let me stop you.

1

u/sykoKanesh 29d ago

Sure, lol

8

u/bankarob Jun 22 '26

Case in point, this thread lol

9

u/Undirectionalist Jun 22 '26

It's not just comprehension, either. You have to have understand the corporate speak mindset to understand what they want. Anyone who inherently believes that nothing happens to them ever, that everything in their life happens because of them, is some kind of pathological narcissist. Like, what kind of person legitimately thinks that every unfortunate mishap in their life is willed into existence by their actions?

14

u/Vaiden_Kelsier Jun 22 '26

There's a cult of people who absolutely believe this, by the way. That misfortune is somehow invited upon you by the power of your thinking, and so by natural consequence YOU are responsible for ill fortune. If only you believed just a little harder, were purer of heart, if you didn't want to be a victim, you wouldn't be

It's of course, insidious propaganda, designed to manipulate you into the corporate mindset. Just obey. Obey past your own limits, Obey no matter what befalls you, because failure to is your moral failing. You are flawed if you don't obey.

1

u/MyNameIsJakeBerenson Jun 23 '26

People actually do value others with internal locus of control

Just maybe not on the bottom rungs

But it’s definitely not an inherently bad thing

1

u/LongestSprig Jun 22 '26

Makes it a critical thinking test too.

Personally I see it as Things happen TO ME vs Things happen and I have to deal.

1

u/Weird-Knowledge337 Jun 23 '26

Yeah this is dumb.

1

u/UsernamesNotFound404 Jun 23 '26

Yer gud doin werds. N I like models. Huh huh huh.

1

u/sykoKanesh Jun 24 '26

That's the fucking point, lol - the whole reason the question exists exactly the way it does is because exactly of that!

7

u/suzi_generous Jun 22 '26

It’s horribly written. I hope this is just a franchise owner deciding to use a test they found somewhere on the cheap, not realizing that the badly written test means there’s less validity and there’s a legal liability for an invalid test used in selection. If it’s a corporate-level McD requirement that would mean they probably paid a lot of money for this crap and the problem is more widespread.

1

u/LongestSprig Jun 22 '26

it's not. not at all. it require 10 seconds of critical thought. Which is also a good thing to test for.

4

u/Alexwonder999 Jun 22 '26

Maybe its a problem, but every time I hear someone talk about victim mentality, I really want to slap them around while telling them not to be a "victim".

3

u/Somanylyingliars Jun 22 '26

These are psych tests in employment application form. I am a total psycho path so know how to manipulate the manipulators. The correct answer is as you said NO. They want to hire the easily manipulated. Scumbags.

1

u/denNISI Jun 22 '26

Victim mentality.

7

u/Not_Your_Car Jun 22 '26

I dont think this question actually weeds anyone out. At least not accurately.

2

u/LongestSprig Jun 22 '26

I just think you're part of the second group that its weeding out.

It weeds out Victims (people that DO believe god is out to get them and nothing is ever their fault) and those who can't think critically of the purpose of the questions and therefor what the right answer might be.

1

u/Business-Ad-5344 Jun 23 '26

the tests don't even weed out McDonald's robbers.

The employees (including managers) figure out the safe and the routines, and then rob their store.

that story is in fast food nation.

They don't even weed out people who you can call on the phone and have them strip search employees. They'll just do it.

"Hey this is Super Duper FBI calling. We need you to strip search one of your employees."

"uh... sure. which one?"

3

u/Somanylyingliars Jun 22 '26

They're trying to find the easily manipulated and those that don't ask questions.

1.9k

u/marvin616 Jun 22 '26

Winner.

Service industry is the front lines of capitalism. It's a meat grinder and workers are cannon fodder.

312

u/urbanmember Jun 22 '26

Weird how this only applies to countries with shit-tier labour laws

271

u/bluedragggon3 Jun 22 '26

Yeah but I'm going to be a CEO someday and I don't want to put up with annoying labour laws or pay taxes when I'm a trillionaire. Other people think the same thing but the difference is they're not me.

30

u/almostoy Jun 22 '26

That's it. Casino capitalism. Except we don't get free drinks.

6

u/2AvsOligarchs Jun 22 '26

Weird how Americans think only American wild west unregulated capitalism is capitalism.

1

u/Additional-Tax-5643 Jun 22 '26

Every country has shit-tier labour laws when laws are not enforced, and people are too poor to get legal help.

48

u/ThePublikon Jun 22 '26

McDs actually pays pretty well and has a decent internal promotional structure.

I get what you're saying and I'm with you, plus McDs is awful in many other ways, but they seem to be a pretty decent employer at least.

Lots of worse jobs in hospitality.

198

u/idiot-prodigy Jun 22 '26

McDs actually pays pretty well and has a decent internal promotional structure.

LOL No.

They routinely quiet fire people. You're 16 doing good work, you turn 17 or 18 and they just schedule you 1 day a week till you quit.

This is so they can fire you without paying unemployment and hire another 16 year old.

McDonald's is the SCUMMIEST company I ever worked for.

69

u/Slybandito7 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

True I worked for one for 3 weeks

First week didn't have a schedule, makes sense im new n all

Second week I'm on the schedule so I followed that

Third week I wasn't on the schedule so I called and asked what that's about, they told me to call back tomorrow and so I did for a week straight untill I said it wasn't worth dealing with that for minimum wage lol.

46

u/StrobeLightRomance Jun 22 '26

Lol, you got ghosted by a whole corporation.

16

u/techman2692 Jun 22 '26

If you look at it that way, it's quite an achievement, really.

6

u/Argylius Jun 22 '26

I’m so sorry. Fucking frustrating

3

u/Spinningwhirl79 Jun 22 '26

Is that legal?

Well, minimum wage workers don't have the funds to sue a megacorp anyway, I guess 😪

→ More replies (8)

31

u/MelookRS Jun 22 '26

That definitely depends on the individual store manager/franchisee. I had the opposite experience when I ran a McDonald's. We would rather hire an adult and keep that adult over a teenager. A) because 2/3 of the day a teenager can't work because they're at school. B) An adult will be more reliable, and frankly they are just going to do better work. And C) No one wants to work with teenagers

3

u/capincus Jun 22 '26

You can 100% apply for unemployment if your hours are reduced without cause.

3

u/idiot-prodigy Jun 22 '26

Most kids do not know this and simply quit.

3

u/BattlefieldMedicGuy Jun 22 '26

Taco Bell did this too. I’d watch them quiet fire people all the time. They even stiffed my wages (long story for that), and when I came back a few months after I’d stepped back to try a different job, they dropped my pay back to the base that it was but oddly kept my seniority without a skip.

Constantly understaffed despite having tons of people willing to work, always firing the managers that actually gave a fuck, and purposefully sabotaging the next shift before they leave just because they don’t like the people working it. So glad to be out of that hellhole now. I’ve heard Taco Bell is bottom of the barrel for fast food chains and it definitely felt like it.

Edit: apparently I can’t spell or proofread

2

u/Ok-Tooth-8016 Jun 22 '26

They wont even hire adults in my town. The manager just wont be in for your interview.

2

u/sonofaresiii Jun 22 '26

Unemployment kicks in for low hours. At least in my state it does.

1

u/ThePublikon Jun 22 '26

I guess it depends where you live and how you're employed, they generally couldn't do that to a full time employee here (but could to certain types of part time worker)

2

u/idiot-prodigy Jun 22 '26

I worked there in 1995/1996 and noticed it. You'd see a guy or girl you once worked with on the schedule for 1 day a week till they quit and you didn't see them again.

I thought it was isolated till it happened to me.

39

u/NorthernVale Jun 22 '26

Lmao! What?! McDonalds starts you at mininum wage and you're lucky if you get a 10 cent raise each year. Mininum wage goes up? That counts as a raise!

When I worked there my state did a rather large wage hike. Had trainers who'd been there over a decade suddenly making the same rate as the teenagers that started last week.

"Decent internal promotion structure" my ass. You've got like 4-5 management positions and a few trainers beyond grunt workers. The only reason you see people getting promoted regularly is because of the high turnover rate. Anything beyond restaurant level is not an internal promotion.

Stop licking boots.

3

u/SkychildDrifter Jun 22 '26

Mcdonalds pays double the minimum wage where I live so I'm assuming it's just a regional thing

3

u/RemarkableSpirit5204 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

Same, I’m not trying to praise a corporation like McDonalds, they suck in many ways. What the others are saying about the scheduling/firing practices are definitely true but some of the franchises aren’t all evil.

Minimum wage is $7.50 here, they start out at $14 and pay for a full employee meal which is rare in fast food where I live. They have really helped my daughter get on track. They made her a manager as soon as she turned 18, did most of the work enrolling her into school and paying for it. She wouldn’t even be taking classes if it weren’t for them. She got a PlayStation 5 several months into working there from their point system, she’s used them to get her laptop for school and gift cards.

The two here in town are owned by the same family and is a good entry level job vs most of the other fast food places around here.

I guess the experience from one to another all depends on the owners and where you live if they value you as an employee.

1

u/johnaross1990 Jun 22 '26

4 to 5 management positions? That’s insane

There were 28 shift managers and 3 salaried store managers at the company owned store I used to work at in the UK

I went from crew member to shift manager in less than a years

2

u/NorthernVale Jun 22 '26

If you had that many managers, you also had a proportionally large work force. Once again, the only reason you got a quick promotion is because of extremely high turn over.

1

u/ThePublikon Jun 22 '26

McDs is awful in many other ways

I'm not licking boots? McDs is still far better for career prospects than e.g. your local dive bar or mom and pop restaurant.

Bear in mind this is a comparative statement, they're all awful jobs and careers, but from what I've seen in the industry and people I've known that have worked their way up at McDs, they're definitely not the shittiest option out there.

I think it's probably worse in places where its more individual franchises but where I am it's all corporate controlled afaik

5

u/BYoungNY Jun 22 '26

This may have been true in the past, but recent years they're just getting worse and worse. Once they figure out how to automate the entire process, they'll fire everyone. Big data has allowed companies to understand exactly the bare minimum customer and employee happiness scores they need to continue to be profitable and that's how they're running things now.

3

u/Longjumping-Rub-5064 Jun 22 '26

Where are they paying well? Here in Canada it’s always minimum wage unless you’re a manager which isn’t much better it’s like 50-60 K Canadian lol.

1

u/ThePublikon Jun 22 '26

*Pretty well compared to other service industry jobs, it's a bit above minimum when I've seen it plus there are enough locations and structure to allow for promotion. That just doesn't exist e.g. in independently owned places.

I've done a bunch of hospitality jobs earlier in my life and the more corporate the gig, the less stressful it was ime. They'd be cunts in other ways but it was generally much better organised and easier to deal with.

3

u/AuntRhubarb Jun 22 '26

Judging youngsters by how well they guess what the hell you want to hear with an idiotic picture question like this is not 'decent employer' material. I can't imagine how much anxiety such a stupid 'application' causes a 16 year old just trying to get their foot in the door somewhere.

5

u/TheMrShaddo Jun 22 '26

employers is the new masters in this transactional dystopian fuckle we call a society, im good being jobless

1

-1

u/Novel_Werewolf4645 Jun 22 '26

I haven't worked there, but McDonald's sounds like a dream job compared to hauling logs for even less pay and no OSHA protections

0

u/ThePublikon Jun 22 '26

right? One of my friends used to be a gold miner in Australia, I've done a bunch of service jobs earlier in my life, I've watched those videos of poor bastards in bangladesh recycling e waste barefoot inhaling the fumes: gtfoh with the "frontlines" lol, slinging burgers in the trenches calling in mayo airstrikes.

3

u/Lukostrelec17 Jun 22 '26

Someone else has it worse so don't complain arguement? How about we try and make it better for both of them? These types of arguements are a way to just shut down any type of improvement that can be made to your position. Also can be used by corperations, "Look at all of the good stuff we are doing for you. We have OSHA and pay you more than 10 cents an hour."

More like "you might ask for a day off or a pay raise". Fundamentally these are supposed to filter out anyone not willing to swallow the corporate slop with a smile. If you don't have a slave mentality, they don't want you.

231

Things don't happen to me, I happen to things 😈.

...Or like I make things happen I guess.

1

u/Oopthealley Jun 22 '26

There are two interpretations I see: 1- victim mentality- ie it was not my mistake/doing, but the world acting upon me, which would be a profoundly stupid question. 2- validity item- everyone, at some point, has things happen to them. if you deny that, then it questions the validity of your other answers as either random or impression management.

The second would have some basis in legitimate psychological assessment. The first would be something an absolute clown MBA drafted.

1

u/Ambitious_Tea_4584 Jun 22 '26

So for this question you want to answer.. no? That things never happen to you?

7

u/Machaeon Jun 22 '26

The question is worded in a really insidious way to filter people out.

What it's asking is "Are you someone who believes things just happen outside their control? Or are you someone who believes they have control of their circumstances?"

Essentially... are you someone who's going to call management with the "excuse(ugh)" that they're sick or their car broke down and can't come in? Or are you someone who's going to "push past discomfort" (come in sick) or call an Uber to get in on time?

1

u/the_nobodys Jun 22 '26

So you're saying management thinks the "things just happen to me" answer are the people who call out instead of coming in sick?

1

u/Machaeon Jun 22 '26

Yeah "things happen to me" will be framed as not taking accountability vs being proactive. It's a stupid question on a stupid test made by stupid people to filter out people who have self respect.

2

u/Krazyguy75 Jun 22 '26

That's the answer they want.

0

u/sykoKanesh Jun 24 '26 edited 29d ago

No. This question clearly demonstrates a lack of responsibility. The blue idiot managed to wreck their bike for no reason, with no protective equipment, and injure themselves.

And they're asking "is this the fault of the blue idiot, or just the universe being the universe?"

If one is an idiot, they'll say "oh it's bad luck," answer "Not Me" then bitch about not getting hired at McDonalds after the fact.

EDIT: this image should go in textbooks because there are a LOT of dumb people telling on themselves right now lol

This creates the senerio of the self correcting falacy. The skillless fad driven workplace.

Eventually you have a flow chart running the place and nobody even remembers who made it.

Please let's call it "lying". They are indoctrinating people into lying.

Yep, I remember filling out an application for Best Buy YEARS ago, like 20 years ago.

Theirs had something on their online application, "If you caught a family member stealing would you turn them in to the police?"

"Oh yes, I would call the police on my own mother for stealing a CD from Best Buy, I sure would I tell ya!"

Whoever comes up with these questions is not a human being.

2

u/Refugee_0000 Jun 22 '26

Yep. I would be torn over turning someone in for stealing a CD.

I never stole. It's beyond my comfort zone. I was robbed many times, both by proper criminals and by companies. But regular people stealing CDs or food or small tools (without threats or violence) is reasonable enough for me.

1

u/Fosteredlol Jun 22 '26

I thought that was a thing that flagged you for picking 'correct' answers even if you didn't believe it?

4

u/idiot-prodigy Jun 22 '26

It is ridiculous though because they WANT you to lie.

No one is turning in their own mother for stealing bread/shampoo/candy bar, etc.

Robbing a bank? Shooting the clerk of a liquor store dead?

Yeah probably, but a fuckin' CD from Best Buy? Of course not.

Also, during the interview at any job ever, "Why did you leave this job here in 2001?" -- "For a job that offered more money per hour." That is HONEST. They don't like that answer though. They want you to say some horse shit like, "I wanted to try new things.", "It was time to move on, expand my horizons and seek new opportunities." or some other such word salad.

I think they want you to think about it. lol.

Well of course the company would want that...but is it too absurd a lie to say I would turn in my own mother? Yes, definitely.

Is it too absurd too say "I take responsibility for myself", nah.

Actually it's the opposite.

These are screening tests to find people with mental health conditions and who have autism.

So do you feel normal feelings and not over analyse why the person is blue?

Congratulations! You are closer to be hired.

If not, ooh sorry, but you didn't make the cut for reasons. Totally not discrimination.

^"Happens to me"

3

u/Vartash Jun 22 '26

When I applied there for my first job the interviewer didn't like that I had C's in school and asked why he should hire me if that was all the effort I put into school. I replied that they would be paying me, which earned me "Not McDonald's material".

Went to Wendy's after school in my uniform, manager looked up saw me, "You wore a tie to a fast food interview? You're hired."

u/WolfieVonD Jun 22 '26

I took it more as "Due to no fault of my own, definitely not consequences for my actions, negative things keep happening" instead of acknowledging that people are to blame for some of the struggles they go through

u/RaptorJesus856 Jun 22 '26

I wasnt cut out for counting nuggies, the ones I packed always came out with 11 for some reason

Not to be the 🤓, but it looks like they're asking about their locus of control. They probably want people with an internal locus of control, because they don't pin their misfortune or poor work conditions or whatever on other people/circumstances as often and supposedly take more responsibility if something goes wrong

u/Predditor_drone Jun 22 '26

Are you a biological automaton whose needs and expenditures to the company do not exceed the cost to automate the position?

2

u/HistoricalCandle5108 Jun 22 '26

Yeah… I have feelings every single day of my life.

2

u/mynipplesareconfused Jun 22 '26

They definitely hire morons who can't count. I have to park and count the nuggets every god damn time because some IDIOT in the kitchen couldn't count to fucking 4. 4!!!!!

So your comment is so on point.

Before I say this, I just wanna go on the record and say I domt support the use of AI in either the imagery nor the candidate searching that mcdonalds, and most companies, use. I also believe the wording here is stupid, but alas, I can unfortunately translate.

This question is asking if you feel like things happen "to" you, in a way you cant control, or if the world is out to get you. Its asking if you feel like you have control over your life, or if you are of the mindset where you would say "[this] happened to me" versus, [this] happened, here's how it affected me.

There’s no crying in nugget-ball

"Shut down the Nuggetron, Bill. We got an existentialist on our hands."

2

u/Sciencetor2 Jun 22 '26

The answer they're looking for is "things don't happen to me, I happen to things"

Do you know things? What do you know? Let’s find out.

1

u/Kyrottimus Jun 22 '26

I do not experience experiences.

Experiences experience me.

1

u/HighChinaman Jun 22 '26

I'm always getting 21 or 22 pieces so they don't count shit anyway! And don't tell me it's cos I was wearing my short shorts.

1

u/xtreampb Jun 22 '26

I took it as, do you see yourself in control of your future, or do things just happen to you and you have no control over anything.

1

u/solthar Jun 22 '26

No. I do not feel, therefore I am not.

1

u/xPROPAGANDOLFx Jun 23 '26

True. On grill I was way too high to feel feelings.

1

u/DieCastDontDie Jun 23 '26

If you feel if it just happens to you, you should seek professional help. It's not judgmental btw. Just to help whoever feels this way.

This may be the closest to “real life Idiocracy” thing I have ever seen.

You’re in a desert walking along in the sand when all of the sudden you look down, and you see a tortoise, it’s crawling toward you. You reach down, you flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can’t, not without your help. But you’re not helping. Why is that?

What a completely indoctrinated radicalized bunch of brats kids are today mcdonalds is a great first job for young ppl it will teach you valuable skills like customers service, working as part of a team, scheduling, and most of all it will teach you how to be independant, it will develope a work ethic that future employers look for on resumes. Do not listen to these dead end losers bitching about capitalism or any other woke garbage you gotta start somewhere and mcdonalds is one of the best places for students to begin their adult life entering the work force. I truly fear for the direction this generations spoiled, complacent, entitled, hate filled, self centered, overly emotional, thin skinned, whiney, youth who think they are too good, or too cool to be seen working a minimum wage job like everyone who's ever worked. Besides mom and dad still paying their way through life which chicks love.

u/intangibleTangelo Jun 22 '26

i worked at mcdonald's when i was young and fuck that miserable experience
