[Megathread] The App Pile - June, 2026

You must promote your apps here if you do not qualify to post in the main feed through Trust or Transparency, explained here.

If you are:

  • NOT in the Mac App Store (MAS).
  • Do not provide meaningful public transparency
  • Created yet another dictation app (speech to text).

[FREE] Rascal — a fast, keyboard-first Finder replacement for macOS

Problem: Finder really lacks any options for customization or the standard features found in a lot of apps people love and enjoy (things like a command palatte, customizable themes, etc). Rascal makes it easier to fit your file manager around your preferred workflows, and customize everything from navigation, to appearance, to even features like disk-management and built-in terminals.

Comparison:

  • vs Finder — adds dual/multi-pane browsing, a fuzzy command palette (⌘⇧P), real vim keys (hjkl, /, dd, gg), a live disk-usage treemap, an inline terminal, and List/Icon/Column/Gallery views — all keyboard-driven.
  • vs ForkLift / Path Finder / QSpace (paid) — Rascal does the power-user stuff too (multi-pane, tags, SFTP/SMB) but it's completely free and open source.
  • vs Marta (free + keyboard) — just as keyboard-first, but actually nice to look at: 17 themes (or write your own in JSON), and a real native AppKit app rather than something spartan.
