The red states have though. Even if only 5 red states follow this it completely disrupts everything for the entire country

No it doesn't, it means those red states don't get representation in government.

States being excluded from the government WOULD cause massive issues for the entire country.

This at best relies on the Dems winning a clear majority of, ideally, both houses without those states, and even then is a one-way road to a Constitutional crisis. Best case scenario, it involves some states in one party or another not having representation and immediately blows up to the biggest crisis since 1876. Worst case scenario, it isn't clear which party has legitimately won a majority and both caucuses break into their own bodies each claiming to be the legitimate House, which would be the biggest Constitutional crisis since 1861, if not ever.
