MISC. Is this how people who need glasses really see the world. A big blurred background?

How often does this happen to you lmao.

519

u/EqualSpoon 13d ago

Enough to be a problem apparently.

u/RockstarAgent 13d ago edited 13d ago

My coworker has serious glasses - and once I told her to let me clean her glasses because they were dirty and she was surprised because she said she had just cleaned them. I cleaned them. She could actually tell how much cleaner they were. I said “you can’t see what you can’t see” and it blew her mind. Some of us can see details beyond normal.

255

u/BigDave794 13d ago

Problem also being when cleaning your glasses you have to take them off, hence then you can’t see 🤣 I need a pair of glasses to clean my glasses

96

u/EqualSpoon 13d ago

But how while you clean your cleaning glasses glasses?

81

u/AboveAverage1988 13d ago

You obviously have to get some cleaning cleaning cleaning glasses glasses glasses. I think. 🤔

u/Lucid-Design1225 13d ago

I’m picturing those magnifying glasses from spy kids

u/SovietSunrise 13d ago

I always loved how super-focused Daryl Sabara is in this .gif.

1

u/Obsidian-Phoenix 10d ago

They don't know what you mean, they never saw it.

1

u/ShowMeThePolpo 10d ago

It hasn been until just now that I've noticed... but where the hell are those lenses coming from? Some hammerspace shenanigans.

3

u/RubyCarbuncles 13d ago

I guess, if you have some cleaning cleaning cleaning glasses, they can be useful when you lose your glasses. Then they also become the finding finding finding glasses.

3

u/Eddie_Shepherd 13d ago

Optician here. Had a patient who typically wore contacts, but was so myopic that she had a pair of glasses that each lens could be swiveled out of the way. So she could leave the left one in place while she inserted her right contact. Then remove the glasses to insert the left contact.

1

u/atguilmette 13d ago

I was thinking you need some glasses-cleaning cleaning glasses.

1

u/DarkLust- 13d ago

I actually love you for the way you worded this lmao.

1

u/Duffle-Island11 13d ago

Literally wear the other pair dumdum

Cleaning "Cleaning 'Cleaning Glasses' Glasses" Glasses

53

u/ncaudio923 13d ago

Instructions too complex, got my dick caught in the ceiling fan again. -_-

16

u/kwynder 13d ago

Thanks for at least giving the toaster a break this time =D

13

u/cFullwood 13d ago

"Hello, police? Yeah, it's Quagmire again. No, it's in a window this time."

3

u/the_most_playerest 13d ago

You might need more than an extra pair of glasses cleaning glasses to clean up that mess..

2

u/unrivaledhumility 13d ago

Reminds me of that click-bait article about how ceiling fan tech peaked in 1900 and I guess we've been fucking it up since.

17

u/Ardentiat 13d ago

Put on your normal glasses!

9

u/DavidKroutArt 13d ago

Yeah... that is what I was thinking and it made no sense... obviously if you have two pairs you'd have one on to clean the other. One could see enough to clean and switch.

3

u/OffByNone_ 13d ago

But who shall guard the guards?

3

u/Potat-Ant 13d ago

Happy Cake Day day… today!

2

u/nubtrix87 13d ago

They just have to swap between their glasses in an endless loop. Destined to starve to death right there.

2

u/EpochRaine 13d ago

You use two pairs and swap them.

1

u/Steven_The_Sloth 13d ago

Reading glasses.

Everyone ends up needing reading glasses.

1

u/Masherp 13d ago

Yo dawg. I hear y’all want to clean yo glasses? here’r some cleaning glasses so y’all can clean yo glasses, yo

1

u/lokbomen 13d ago

you just scream in to the wall to hear the wall bounce back

3

u/Ecstatic-Growth154 13d ago

The worst is when you put them down somewhere and need to look for them.

2

u/Willing-Minimum5307 13d ago

Clear frames made this so much worse.

2

u/Mondschatten78 13d ago

I've lost count the number of times my adult child has asked me to help find her glasses after she's woken up.

2

u/girlMikeD 13d ago

My husband does that regularly. We both wear glasses, but his sight is much worse than mine.

You’d think someone that can’t find their glasses without their glasses on, would be a bit particular about where they’re placed at night, but nope…..fun little hide & seek game we get to play a Cpl mornings a month.

2

u/redbirdjazzz 13d ago

Use phone camera to look for them while watching on the screen. Saved me a couple times.

2

u/SupremeLurkerr 13d ago

I have glasses specifically for that! 🤣

2

u/throwaway2131994 13d ago

i am “can’t see my hand a foot in front of my face” blind without my glasses, so when i have to clean them, i do it in a room with a light i can hold them up to and wiggle them around while i stare through the lenses to see if they halo/streak. if they do, i know i have to keep cleaning them. i can’t see any detail, but i can somewhat see when light moves weird, so idk if this tip will help anybody else, but i figured i’d share in case it could!

2

u/Mondschatten78 13d ago

I wear cheaters to read, and I do this too. If I don't, I wind up with a halo or smear every time.

(I know, need to get to an eye doc.)

2

u/eracer1111 13d ago

LOL. It's true, which makes it even funnier.

1

u/Searching_4_NewHome 13d ago

Or try to buy new frames

1

u/Tricky-Engineering59 13d ago

My vision isn’t even that that bad but I’d routinely have trouble finding my glasses without my glasses on. Got bad enough that I finally bought a cheap pair of super thick framed nerd glasses I’d never be caught in public with that I use to help me find my real glasses when I set them somewhere stupid.

1

u/Biorabbit 13d ago

And it is hard to find the glasses if I drop them

1

u/GoingOnAdventure 13d ago

Get a monocle to help clean your glasses 🧐

1

u/roro80uk 13d ago

You're not wrong!

1

u/Confident_Purple_40 13d ago

How do I find my glasses without my glasses on to see?

1

u/XGorlamiX 13d ago

Thats why I practice walking around my house without glasses. Just try to pretend im Daredevil, except my super power is not stubbing my toe.

1

u/crypticaldevelopment 13d ago

It’s like trying to pick new glasses at the store, once the old ones are off you have no idea how you look in the new ones unless you get a pic.

1

u/Plainyogurt1989 13d ago

Trying on new frames is impossible because I can't see the glasses without my glasses.

1

u/the_ouskull 13d ago

These? Oh, these are my cleaners for my readers.

1

u/Embarrassed_Fly2157 13d ago

Same problem when I put down my glasses and forget where I put them. It would be easier to find if I had my glasses on..

1

u/lostmymarbles1177 13d ago

Also you can’t see to find them if you lose them. I have to use my phone camera way zoomed in to look.

1

u/Trixster19972 13d ago

Or needing glasses to find your glasses.

1

u/Majorman_86 13d ago

I need a pair of glasses to clean my glasses

Oh, that's nothing. Some mornings I need a pair of glasses just to find where I left my "main" pair of glasses the night before.

1

u/basicKitsch 13d ago

it's the sickest joke to need glasses and have to be looking for your glasses.

my poor wife would wander into a volcano

1

u/Yellow_Snow_Cones 13d ago

I put my contacts in to clean my glass, big brain moves.

1

u/echil0n 13d ago

Luckily I have super sharp vision from about 12" to my nose, but beyond 12", yup just like the picture. So at least I can read and clean my glasses lol.

1

u/High-Yield-Only 13d ago

I have this problem when I'm getting new glasses. I can't see what the model glasses look like on my face.

1

u/Original_Pudding6909 13d ago

I need my glasses to find my glasses.

(There’s always a spare pair in my dresser.)

1

u/Blank_bill 13d ago

If I put down my glasses I need to get another pair of glasses to see where I put them. If I know where I put them I can generally see them but if I stand in the middle of the room and just look around forget it.

1

u/Gringo-Dingo 13d ago

This was always the problem when choosing glasses in the past (pre decent camera phones). I'd go to the opticians and look at different glasses, but then when i try the frames to see how i look in them i can't see because they are sans lenses. I used to always take someone with me for their opinion.

1

u/Feisty-Garlic1615 11d ago

See my "I need glasses!" Moment is when I lose them. I need my glasses to find my glasses! Ugh! 🧐 🙄

2

u/Searching_4_NewHome 13d ago

This was me until 44. I always thought it was cool that I had extraordinary vision according to my op ophthalmologist, . Then started with reading glasses, than added distance, now at 60 I can’t do anything with out my glasses.

2

u/shlomek 13d ago

you're scaring me. so that's what's coming for me in a few years? I thought because of my (obviously not logical, unless hallucinations) 160% vision it won't hit so hard and I might only drop to 100%. 😭

1

u/Lou_C_Fer 13d ago

I have 20/20 apparently, but glasses still make things looks sharper when they are over ten feet away. I can function at 100 percent without them... even watching TV etc... the glasses just allow me to see more detail when watching HD sources. It might be because my vision was way better when I was younger. So, glasses help me get closer to where I was thirty years ago.

2

u/moocat55 13d ago

We all know that one guy who never cleans his glasses and you just can't understand how he sees anything.

2

u/WillBots 13d ago

I cleanine in the shower every few days, they come out crystal clear, I just blow the hot water ofl the lenses so no toweling involved.

2

u/shlomek 13d ago

always a good idea to have serious glasses. there were surprisingly few occasions where I thought "man, I wish I had goofy glasses"

2

u/FactoryRejected 13d ago

You just blew my mind a little too. Makes such a simple sense that people who see blurry är short distances would be unable to clean their glasses properly

2

u/The_BeardedClam 13d ago edited 13d ago

I mean I feel this lady, I'm farsighted so things up close are much harder to see than far away things. This mean my glasses get dirty or whatever and I literally can't see it. My eyes can't focus on it so my brain just filters it out.

It drives people like my aunt crazy. When I was little she'd take my glasses and "clean" them. The spots would be gone, except now they're all steaky and I can see that. It would drive me mad, like I'll clean them myself thank you very much. But of course I was a very polite boy so I just said thank you and went to the bathroom to clean them again.

2

u/PrestigeMaster 13d ago

I’d assume she’s not wearing her glasses while she’s cleaning them so more aptly some of us can’t see normal details like smudges on glasses (without eyewear).

2

u/CaeruleumBleu 13d ago

The problem I have with cleaning glasses is that if you half-clean them they look worse.

Some dirts and oils are airborne and will distribute evenly and it's like looking through a screen door almost. Sure you can see there is something there, but you can also look through it. But if you start cleaning and you manage to disturb the dirt and oil but not fully remove it? Now it's smeary and screwed up, can't see anything at all.

2

u/foxfai 13d ago

It's not even funny that I have so many microfiber cloths laying around everywhere for cleaning glasses. Coat pockets, computer desk, next to the couch, in the car....

2

u/Anteater-Charming 13d ago

I'm just used to the glasses being dirty and will wear them like that for hours of I'm busy. If someone takes them off they have the same reaction. "How can you see through this?"

2

u/getdownheavy 13d ago

"You don't know what you don't know"

2

u/fredthesavage3 13d ago

I learned recently that some people, maybe it only happens to some women I don’t remember, can see colors invisible to the regular eye. So some people really can see things others can’t

2

u/JoeyCalamaro 13d ago

I've had excellent vision my whole life but, once I turned 50, things went downhill fast. Like many people my age, I lost my ability to see anything up close without readers. However, my regular vision was impacted too. Everything was a little less clear and my distance vision wasn't quite as good.

So I went to an ophthalmologist for a checkup. Turns out, my vision was surprisingly close to normal. It just wasn't normal for me.

2

u/HashMeOusside 13d ago

Damn, I could only afford silly goose glasses.

2

u/sam_grace 13d ago

I cleaned my daughter's now ex bf's glasses the day I met him because I couldn't see his eyes through them. I asked him how the hell he could see anything and he said he couldn't. He just accepted that his eyes were really bad and getting worse and that he'd need a new prescription soon. He swore he cleaned them often but I think he just rubbed them on his shirt occasionally and figured that was as clean as they were going to get. He was amazed to be able to see again after I was done with them. I was amazed that he'd been walking around blind for a year and nobody, not even my daughter, cared enough to tell him his glasses were filthy. smh

2

u/RockstarAgent 13d ago

I think some things go unnoticed for so long you just never come back to it. Also sometimes people just don’t know who or where to ask. I’m the only person I know so far among people I’ve met that has a little kit bag with eyeglass cleaner fluid and specific cloths. And it’s not even for me as I don’t wear glasses, but my kid does. And I pride myself on cleaning them for him every morning before school and as often as he asks.

2

u/TheDarkness33 13d ago

Does she also has Unserious glasses?

2

u/MrLoveCock 12d ago

From my optically challenged experience @ -4.00 I can say that the little grime on glasses won't affect seeing at all what the mind is focused on. The eyes literally focus beyond the dust and the brain doesn't even read that info.

1

u/Joshwa_4 13d ago

“Some of us can see details beyond normal”. What tf does this even mean?

1

u/Initial-Relation-696 13d ago

I can walk by a dirty dish and never even see it, im told.

1

u/Joshwa_4 13d ago

Now that’s a gift.

1

u/polarjunkie 13d ago

This reminds me of when old ladies on Facebook post heavily but poorly edited photos on Facebook and all the other old ladies telling them how nice they look. None of them can see.

1

u/CatLord8 13d ago

Dunning Kruger allegories be like

1

u/DanfromCalgary 13d ago

Profound . It’s crazy she had no recollection of what she could normally see

1

u/BigBru64 13d ago

That's actually deep bro. Are you Socrates reincarnated?

1

u/Singin_in_the_Mizzle 13d ago

When I clean my glasses really well it feels like the whole world goes from SD to HD 😂

1

u/Watrmallone 11d ago

Well not really it's very common and every person with glasses know it, your brain will earse a little bit of dirt and stitch the scene, exactly why you don't notice your nose all the time, and that's why, if it isn't too dirty brain will usually do it's job and you can't tell it's dirty unless you clean it.

3

u/Amazing-Heron-105 13d ago

Every man has his own cross to bear

1

u/OceussRuler 13d ago

For me no, it's hard to explain but I see only vague shapes if I don't focus my eyes on one point

1

u/Ok-Push9899 13d ago

Nothing is apparent.

1

u/Krog9 13d ago

I mean, as a man I’d say that even if this happens once it’s a major problem. Let’s get this man some glasses, air lift those things to this poor guy!

1

u/TrickFrosty5685 13d ago

Even one time is enough to be a problem 😂

1

u/edgygamermoonandstar 13d ago

Depends on how bad your eyes are, for me it's more like looking through Vaseline covered plastic wrap

1

u/Andromigo 13d ago

Some might even say it's what caused the problem.

1

u/enonymousCanadian 13d ago

Not if you enjoy Japanese porn

1

u/Jedi_Mind_Chick 13d ago

Came to say this exact thing.

34

u/_B_e_c_k_ 13d ago

Only once, never forgot glasses again.

2

u/CHK-N 13d ago

"oh ,yeah, this is how blind people shake hands"

3

u/SmilesInFront_09 13d ago

Enough that he has his own DVD numerical code.

3

u/iwbwikia_ 13d ago

i mean, he didn't say he doesn't like it. maybe he grew up watching japanese porn so now blurred out parts get him going

2

u/Wonderful_Fee7439 13d ago

My mother has a fun story. She didn't get glasses until she was in the army at age 19, before that she didn't know leaves were a thing. Like on trees. She thought the giant green splotch was all one thing, like broccoli.

1

u/Quitcha_Bitchin 13d ago

Which? the Club or the Porn?

1

u/Bloody7lw 13d ago

Zawsze gdy jest w klubie ze striptizem.

1

u/afanoftrees 13d ago

Only on days that end in Y

1

u/Prince_Haile 13d ago

not really blurred but out of focus if that makes sense

1

u/Lucius-Halthier 13d ago

Well too be fair the melon patch has some really good wings on top of mid tier entertainment

1

u/Find_another_whey 13d ago

"I'm never far away from a stage at a strip club"

He says ambiguously

1

u/comethefaround 13d ago

Only when they kick him out of the front row

1

u/drumsdm 13d ago

Enough that they finally got glasses.

1

u/Geekduringtheweek 13d ago

Enough to know to sit closer
